|
Here we show how the Insight compares to the battery-electric powered RAV-4 that Toyota is offering in some areas. The mpg and carbon dioxide emissions quoted here come from the United States EPA & Department of Energy. These are based on typical methods of electric generation. The actual emissions produced by operating a RAV-4 EV will depend on where the vehicle is operated, and whether it is charged during daytime or off-peak hours (nighttime). For example, if the RAV-4 EV is charged from wind power, it would truly be a 100% clean, zero-emissions vehicle. On the other hand, if it is operated in an area where the additional electricity it uses is generated by coal, oil or natural gas, the carbon dioxide emissions would certainly be worse than the Insight. In the case of coal or oil, the emissions of other pollutants would almost certainly also be worse than the Insight.
