Updated Canadian Insight information

Having taken delivery of an Insight, I can confirm first hand that the Insight is indeed now shipping in Canada. Here is some key information of interest:

  • MSRP is $26,000, with A/C. It is rumored that the car is only being offered with A/C in Canada. Freight and other pre-delivery charges, less the fuel saving tax credit, add $1000 to this price.
  • Honda Canada's web site now features the Insight along with the other Honda models, at http://english.honda.ca/models/insight.asp or http://french.honda.ca/models/insight.asp.
  • Honda Canada will be importing 320 vehicles for this model year.
  • Differences between Canadian and U.S. model are very minor. These are the differences we've been able to identify:
    • The Canadian model is equipped with daytime running lights, as required by Canadian regulations.
    • The climate control is in Celsius.
    • The dashboard warning light for the brakes uses a symbol rather than the work "brake"
    • You get a French version of the owner's manual in addition to an English version.
    • The little silver ULEV/LEV sticker on the left rear window of U.S. models is not present on the Canadian car. (I doubt there are any actual differences in the emissions levels.)
    • The electric motor components are covered under an 8 year warranty. In the U.S., the motor itself is only  covered for 3 years. The rest of the warranty (e.g. 8 years on battery, various control/power modules) is the same in both countries.
