The May 2001 issue of Automobile Magazine includes a log book from having spent a year with an Insight.

Here are the highlights:

As expected our Honda Insight hybrid car returns stellar fuel economy. However we're equally impressed with its unexpected attributes.

Mile 239 -- "The Insight is really quite spectacular. It's as aerodynamic as a raindrop; that swept and tapered body just exudes wind-cheating intent. From its aluminum structure and artful shape to the understated elegance of its cabin, the Insight is just plain exquisite."

Mile 1,574 -- "The Insight is smaller than I expected, yet it's perfectly comfortable and practical as a one-up commuter. It's mighty nimble, too, not necessarily what you expect from a hybrid machine. With practice, fairly indecent speeds can be carried in to the bends."

Mile 2,657 -- "The cabin's fit and finish befits a car costing twice as much. The brushed aluminum in a $40,000 BMW doesn't better the Insight's trim by much, and the electro-whiz digital instrument panel is an object lesson for generations of Chevy Corvette picto-dashes."

Mile 4,732 -- "Ever since I figured out that second gear is good for 60-mph, the Insight seems like a veritable powerhouse." Miles to date: 4,732; Observed mileage: 52-mpg.
