When the Insight is cruising at a constant speed and the Battery Module state of charge is relatively low, some engine output is used by the IMA motor/generator being operated in generation mode to charge the Battery Module. Some of this energy will be delivered to the Insight's 12v accessories, via the DC-DC converter, as necessary. In this state, the instrument display will show partial charging on the charge/assist gauge. When the Insight is cruising and the high-voltage battery is sufficiently charged, the IMA motor/generator continues to turn but only a small amount of electricity is still generated. This electricity will be used to supply the 12v accessories, and any excess energy will be used to slowly charge the Battery Module. In this state, the instrument display will show no charging on the charge/assist gauge. |
