So do we actually have to take our cars in for the Dealership to replace something or do we wait until something happens? The letter I just received says to take it in. But my Insight has been fine and I hate for Dealership service goons to touch my car.

I respectfully suggest you take it in and get 'er done, like Larry the Cable Guy would suggest.
I just took mine in two days ago for the required service. I've had my issues with my dealer before (wrong oil, wrong CVT fluid, messing with the tire pressure, et al, arrrrrgh)

so this time, I called ahead to make sure the parts or whatever would be in stock... and made an appointment for this last Tuesday. At first, the service rep could not find my appointment, and had no clue about a recall on Insights, "and [he] would know." But then the young lady I spoke to appeared and all was well. Their Shuttle took me back home, and six hours later, picked me up again and took me to the dealer to pick up my newly-invigorated Insight. $1,700+ to change out things and reprogram electronic brains, all covered under warranty for me. I didn't see any "goons," (my dealership, although sometimes clueless with an admittedly rare bird, is filled with ordinary, nice, normal people like you and me, usually) everyone was super nice, some complimented me on how clean and "new" my car looked, and one of the sales"goons" even had the courtesy to ask if he could show his curious customers my car before I drove off, as he was in the middle of a HCH sale.
Only 75 miles driven from the change, but I can report (is it my imagination?!?) I have gained the ability to maintain my MPG bars above the 75 dot a LOT easier than before... but more startling, my SOC gauge has NOT dropped from 20 bars, where usually it remains at one bar down, maybe 2 once in a rare while.
I'll drive it some more this week and next, so I can put another 150-200 miles on it, and try to report any observations before I leave the country in July... But so far, happy camper here...
