Unless someone knew what they have to do and how to do it, a person would never know what consitutes a good mechanic....er technician.
I experienced service department blunders such as, scratches to my paint and interior, bolts/screws left out and parts not properly tightened. I even had a wheel center cap dented in and the service writer had the nerve to say it was like that when I brought it in. If I hadn't actually looked over their work I would have never known. And when you discover weeks later, missing things like bolts and screws, it makes it hard to prove they forgot to put them back in.
I guess the good thing is, I am mechanically inclined enough to know what should and shouldn't be under my hood. So I make a practice whenever I have to use a dealership for service, to take a good look before leaving their lot.
