I just installed my carpet floormats today. I installed the anchors as instructed. It was no big deal at all, the only thing I did different than the instructions is that I used a pair of pliers to clamp them together once they were in place (instead of the screwdriver they recommended). It is definitely a safety issue. If by some freak of nature your floormat slips under your brake pedal and you need to make an emergency stop but cannot due to the floormat jamming up the pedal, you'll be very sorry that you didn't install them. I know it is an off chance but its cheap insurance to prevent an accident that would likely be ruled "your fault" upon inspection of your vehicle.
