Peter,
Thanks
You have learned so much and acquired so many useful signals that the OBDII C&C will make a beautiful interface to the car and eliminate all the costly wiring. I imagine the MIMA2 install would be a single plug and play connector at the ECM, and plugging into your OBDII C&C serial out for the signals required, so it would have access to battery SOC, and the many other signals that can make it so much smarter than the present MIMA.
Not to leave out the present MIMA owners, A serial add on to tap the OBDIIC&C serial out on the present generation of MIMA would allow the same level of enhanced operation as MIMA 2 on present MIMA installations .
Will probably build the MIMA 2 using the 18F4520 chips that were upgraded on the chargers to the 18F4620, so there will be plenty of I/O with the 40 pin chips. The chips are $4 in quantity, a small price for so much capability.
Just takes lots of that lost commodity TIME.
Vehicle stable adjustment.
My 1996 Dodge gas guzzling caravan finally got retired this week, and was replaced by :

Like the car a lot, got up to 82 MPG on a 40 mile trip last evening.
too many projects not enough time, but here is another.

Is there any news about the MIMA 2 ?
How will the system look like, how will it be connected to the car, how much will it cost?
Regards from Europe

First off I have to say I am sorry for posting something off topic but Red Dwarf PM'ed me wanting to buy my MIMA. The only problem is he got his phone number wrong in the PM, it is disconnected.

An additional problem is while the forum emails you when someone replies to a thread you posted to, it doesn't e-mail you when someone PMs you. So I PM'ed him back asking for a right number but he likely has not seen that and is waiting for my call.

So sorry to all who will see this and it will have no value to them but it is the only way I know that Red Dwarf will get e-mailed.

82 MPG in a Prius?

Maestro, you must teach us!

I can't seem to get it to budge over 55, and average is down in the 40's!

(BTW, my MPG gauge on the Prius is WAY off sometimes, usually in the overly-optimistic range... fill-ups are where the disappointment hits!)

In europe, you may want to consider Peter Perkins version of MIMA, which is discussed on a thread in this forum. I did a quick look, but did not find it, but Peter can point you to it.
The final configuration cost and functionality of the new MIMA is to be determined once the design effort begins.

The drop down wheel was an interesting experiment, but it is not something I would sell.

So if I read correctly...

MIMA 1 No longer available
MIMA 2 Not yet available
Grid Charger No longer taking orders - You are finishing up existing orders
Drop down wheel - Never available
V-Boost booster battery and controller - I haven't found the status of that one yet

Did I miss any?

I would love to join your group of enthusiasts with my two 2000 Insights and my wife's 2003 Prius. I can make anything, but do not have the design or engineering background you have and hey, you've spent years doing it. And I also suffer from the same thing you do. Lackotime. There just isn't enough to do all the cool things we think of.

I can start reading years of posts, but ask for some guidance of where to start. Some are likely more pertinent than others.

Thanks,

Scott

Maybe it would be best to include your location in your profile.
Other INSIGHTERS may be close by that have the mods and that would benefit you for a visit.

Thanks for the reply.
If you go to "Quick Links" on the blue bar at the top of the screen, click, scroll down to "edit your detail", click, fill in the location.......Done.
It will show up on the screen automatically.
Again thanks

I may not get a chance to do serious research on this until after June 2014 (my retrement date from my full time job) at this rate. The orders for my imac&c (EU G1 version and HCH1 version), obdiic&c (both cars) and battery builds (both cars) is increasing dramatically over here. I'm going to start training an apprentice this summer to help with building boards and batteries. My work colleagues son is approaching school leaving age and it's important we pass this specialist knowledge onto the next generation. I'll have to teach him everything from scratch.
The G2, HCH2 and CRZ are def on my list to tackle along with a million other things. ;)

I'm looking forward to seeing Mike's V2 Mima.

Mike Perhaps now is the time to start a general V2 thread for ideas and features people would like in it.

Mima display bar light display on regen mimicked in third tail light bulbs?Possible?

I'll bet newer verion of Mima will be substantially different and all the better what with all the knowledge gained since it's first introduction.
______________________________________
That said, I really like Mima-p with FAS, it's been working great all winter and helping manage the battery when it's too cold for grid charging.
_______
A feature I would like to see how to add to the current or future Mima would be:

A switchable circuit for the third brake light bulbs' to illuminate the bulbs progressively outwards from the center when using Mima's 'regen on demand' feature to brake the car. It would be a safety/courtesy feature and would need conform to hwy acts etc.

In operation, it would be nice to have a gradually increasing luminosity and widening display of the third brake light bulbs on regen braking over a certain level, much like the mima bar bulbs growing progressively, in series as regen on demand increases.

If there was a way to d-i-y a set of relays etc cheap via any available circuit plans , that may be a modification that may be worthwhile.

If someone mines this thread, I believe I have already gathered some ideas and started a wish list, for MIMA 2

On the smart brake bar, One of the guys that was at the hybrid gathering last year and I discussed just such a mod. He was the winner of the MPG challenge, and that is what he wants for his prize, but I still have not got much beyond figuring it out, and isassembling the brake light bar he brought.

The thing we came up with was that the 4 MIMA regen leds that are in the present MIMA display are already PWM brightness controlled, so if we passed the display ribbon through the distribution board, that already has a connector for that, and we put in 4 driver transistors and rewired the first and last 4 leds in the brake light bar, we could have a left and right repeat of the regen leds including current proportional variable brightness
There are 24 leds in the bar right now.
The MIMA display has 4 leds for regen, covering ~ .5 to 50A. R1 is the first to light.

The modified brake light would look like this:

R4-R3-R2-R1-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-R1-R2-R3-R4

Just need the time to play for a half day and it would be working.
Step on the brake, they all light, with the length of the bar changing based on the actual current. Use MIMA without the brake, and only the last 4 on each end would mirror the MIMA display. I bet it would look cool. May get pulled over for strange brake lights though?

Therein lies the problem Mike, we (You and I mainly) keep getting little ideas and projects that we want to tinker with and bang goes the delivery date for MIMA V2, OBDIIC&C CAN enabled. etc etc etc
Plus we all know it would not be half a day, it would be at least twice as long as we predict, so there goes more time we have stolen from something else.

I'm not saying don't do it, as you, like I will do whatever we want, but we can't do everything. I would say though, concentrate on the actual Mima V2 and let someone else tackle that brake light project. Someone with fairly basic electronic knowledge could do the research and work to make that snazzy brake light happen. It gets someone else involved as well, many hands make light work and all that.
