Hi Travis! I'm new to the boards and am looking for my first Insight. I was wondering if your car is still available? I live outside of Gresham and commute to downtown Hillsboro everyday for work. Thanks in advance.

Yup, it's still available. I am living in Hillsboro right now, so we can meet after work for you to take a look at it or I don't mind too much going out to Gresham (I grew up on that side of town). Even if you don't buy mine I'll be glad to try to fill you in on all the nuances of these great cars and point out some things to look for... or I've also noticed that the people on these forums are very nice and knowledgable too.

Give me a call @ 503.901.7895 and we'll arrange a time/place that works well for both of us.

Thanks Travis, I'll be in touch. I'd love to learn more about the Insight, esp. the first generation. I went to a dealership a few weeks ago and they wanted to put me in a brand new one (of course), but I think I'd rather go with the older model. Thanks again and I'll talk with you soon.

Sounds good. It doesn't surprise me either that they would try to sell you a new one. There are several things that I wish they would have done with the new generation:
- Offer it in a manual transmission
- stick with the rear wheel skirt design (looks too much like a prius now)
- Offer it with better gas mileage. It doesn't get near the mileage of the 1st gen, but that might be partially due to it not being offered in a manual.

Talk to you soon.

I can't agree with you enough..I was blown away that they didn't offer it in a manual tranny. That, and the change in fuel economy is exactly why I am looking at an older one.
The salesman and his manager did try to tell me that the 2010 will get just as good gas mileage as the first generation; I asked why the sticker didn't show that, as well as anything I found on Honda's specs for the car. Get this, they said that other manufacturers weren't happy with the fact the Insight got such good mileage so Honda had to change how they advertised their mpgs, but I should expect to get at least 60-70 with a 2010.

I just smiled and told them only to call me if they got an older one in.

I'll call you this week.

The government sets the mileage based on their (admittedly goofy) testing procedure, Honda has no leeway in what is reported.

But next time you are in that situation, have some fun. Tell them to do a 25 mile highway and city loop, with you in the passenger seat and if they can't get at least 60 mpg on the car computer, then they will knock $10k off the sticker so you have extra gas money to make up the mileage difference! Would love to see the expression on that saleman's face.........
Regards,
Jerry

That's absolutely priceless! I might just have to run back down to the dealership and try that one out. LOL! Thanks Jerry, you made my day.
