Default Potential UK Scrap Yard Insight

One of my contacts has had a recent accident and written of his G1 insight with front suspension damage. I believe it is destined for a scrapyard and his insurers are quoting a buyback value of £700. Sadly there are no pics of the car at present but it may be available whole i suppose for the above price. It has a good battery/engine gearbox etc. If anyone is interested PM me. the current owner won't be breaking it himself so no good asking for individual parts from him. If we had somewhere to store it i would recommend we buy it for the UK Insight collective Thoughts?

I'm afriad I can't help with storage, however, I'd be in for sharing purchase costs with you if you fancied, I need at least the gearbox (after being messed around by the salvage yard & the price on the one I was buying going up by nearly 50%), possibly some extra bits too.

If short term storage could be sorted I'd happily lend a hand to strip down over the course of a weekend.

I have spoken to a farmer friend of mine we can strip the car at his address and store the parts there, i already have some bits there. We would have to dispose of the body shell once stripped. I weighed the last one in and got a couple of hundred quid for it.

So basically if we are able to get the car and transport it to my friend, we then need a team of us to descend on it like locusts for a day and strip it to the last nut and bolt. Anyone else interested in contributing/participating.

i have access to a car and trailer but problem is time/petrol!! May be cheaper to tout about for a car transporting firm on an empty run up north to bring it up. transport cost will have to be split between participants unless anyone can assist. I'll firm up the vehicle location asap.

If you let me know where the Insight is going to be I'll see what I can get on Shiply in way of a quote.

Ill happily help with the vulture strip down, broke a few cars in my time. Including a CRX VT that I bought for £800, stripped and sold for more and kept the B16a1 running gear and dropped it in my Rover Coupe

The D16A9 that was in the Rover (another swap as the UK never got that engine) in there (130bhp 1.6) also went to a Mini guy.... I wonder if he ever got that in. I digress.

Thinking off hand I would be interested in the battery, might mean my old one can be donated to 'R&D' purposes.

Also the wheels... if they are nice I may want 2 as I have two dented rims and of course there is the question of tyres!
A wishbone even if damaged will be useful to find replacement bushes and the dampers could be used to work out if Koni fronts inserts could be used and offer an example for the rear units.

With the weigh in value I guess it will require a £500 into a pot (of course £700 cash is needed to start with)

Im definately interested to form part of the group - what year and mileage is the car?

Default UK salvage project

Yes count me in.

Regret I do not have any trailer to offer, where is the Car located?

Might ask a favour from a friend in the business, might get a good price on delivery by transporter.

Toolkit and wallet on standby!

Silver 2000 reg 127k

How do we divy up who gets what though? Any ideas on fair ways of allocating the bits?

Lets say the four of us put in £200 each then who gets the battery/engine etc etc etc.

Personally the ipu cover, mdm and possibly the ima motor might interest me along with the windscreen and driveshafts.

Names in a hat? I've no idea.
