I purchased 3'7" of Utility Gray runner carpet off a roll @ Home Depot sku 195399 for $6.50 and did just what you proposed to my 2003 CVT. The drivers side could be slightly longer but for <$7 I am happy. Lightweight and best for dryer climate. I also use some Big Lots $10 floor mats over these in the winter. I'll have to see how durable they are.
