Yeah, I thought there was a good chance that the dealer was being a little bit hyperbolic with their estimate on the repair. But my thought was, "what if they're right?" If I was to take the car to the shop, have them order all of the parts, which would have come out to what, $1500 retail? And then find out that the bolts had to be drilled out... I would have been out a lot of money just buying the parts and paying to have the exhaust removed. At that point I would have had to have gone through with the whole procedure because I would have already blown so much money on it.

Now going in and trying to remove the bolts myself first. That might have been a good idea. But I went into a mom and pop repair shop and had a mechanic try to replace the bolt holding the b pipe to the first catalytic converter, where the largest exhaust leak was. He couldn't get the bolt out. The head of the bolt just broke right off with a pair of pliers. He couldn't drill the bolt out either, though I'm sure it could have been done with a better drill bit. If the bolts at the cylinder head were to have broken off as easily as the bolts on the b pipe/cat there wouldn't have been much of an option other than to drill out the bolts. But I guess it would have been better to have tried myself.

I got a deal on the car when I bought it. If the buyer gets an even better deal out of it than I did to begin with, so be it.

The car will be here at 9AM tomorrow. I feel like a six year old on Christmas eve - can't sleep.

For those that are wondering, it was smoked in and has no AC . . . UPDATE: Car is in good, but very dirty condition. That's A-OK. I was expecting that. Thanks again to the seller for a smooth easy transaction!

I'll post pics once I crack her open tomorrow
