Searching by posting date only

The "New Posts" and "Today's Posts" searches appear to search only by posting date. Frequently these canned searches result in only a couple of hits which isn't very useful. This might be happening because Honolulu's time zone may be so many hours earlier than the Website's time zone that midnight in the Website's time zone is still the previous day in Honolulu (i.e., today's posts might be those posted only after midnight of the current day in the Website's time zone).

So I'd like to be able to search all postings that were made during the past week, but even using the advanced search options, searches by posting date with no search word or username fail. Trying to force a search by entering "the" as a search word fails as well.

How can one search just by posting date as the "New Posts" and "Today's Posts" searches appear to do?
