As others have already said ... there are pros and cons either way ... staying , starting from scratch , trying to buy the site , ongoing site management , etc.

Despite all the value of the old posts on this site ... I'd say for my 2 bits ... that value is vastly dwarfed by the value of the members ... lots of members with knowledge and skills in a variety of fields and a variety of experiments and projects ... that people resource is the reason I keep coming back to this site ... to see what others have been trying , experimenting with , etc ... if those people were elsewhere , that's where I would want to go.

I am up for a new board, but it's always a question of money.

I don't need another hobby venture that drains money from my family obligations.

Question: Are there current members who are getting paid to run/admin this site, or are otherwise financially benefiting? Eli? Others?

If so, we could try to appeal to them to make the changes we want.

I have tried to approach large site conglomerates in the past for changes, but never really got too far. But I'm always willing to try again.

The moderators arent paid, at least I am not. I was of the understanding the owner was an absent T owner who is living it up in Hawaii on the ad revenue it generates.

Running a site isnt hard, its dealing with the hosting service, domain registering service if not the software manufacture/distributor unless you use a generic template.

I have the newest post showing first on this site. I did that quite a while back. I'll have to look and see how to do it again.

Edit: Go to User CP on the left side of the page. Then under Settings & Options click Edit Options.
Then scroll 1/2 way down the page to the Thread Display mode and change it to Linear-Newest first.

I hope this helps.

Lots of good points. I only worry about the porting IF we were to change. i remember way back (2000) when IC was different. Granted, the change was for the better, but info/ members got lost, removed etc (i was one). id hate to see a loss like that happen again.
I agree the ads get annoying, but they are manageable. My suggestion would be added sub topics, better search function.

I just got a pop up that there was an attempt to change my home page.

Yes, there is a right and wrong way to do ads. Making people pay to have the ads removed is just BLACKMAIL. Blocking the ads in a way is STEALING.

Sounds like we will stick it out here then which is fine.

No we mods etc don't get paid. Only the autoforums staff do presumably.

mind i ask. If they dont pay mods, is there really that much incentive for your time and (possible) aggravation?

I do it becuase it's a service to the Honda hybrid community.
When the old forum was sold out from under us all the other mods threw in the towel in disgust. They had a point of course, but we needed to keep going somehow and I didn't want to rely on auoforums own admins to help us out so I stayed on.

I'm happy to relinquish the responsibility if someone else wants to take it on
