I bought a pair of these from this ebay seller.

They look good. The struts seem to have more lift power than the stock ones.
One of my originals was completely shot, and the other had maybe half of its support power still available.

One of the new struts had enough power to hold up the hatch by itself, but barely. So, I installed one new strut and the best of my old ones. I will save the other new one for when needed at a later time.

The bottom mount of the new strut is different from the original, but all parts to install are included.

Default They work great

I also bought a set of these and replaced both of my old ones, they work great and were easy to install.

I responded in the other thread awhile back but I do agree that the lifting force is a little stronger than the stock ones but a little more sensitive to the extreme cold than the stock struts. At -20 degrees F, they were a little slow, but not much to complain about, especially if these last longer than the stock ones. I think these probably will, the stock ones don't seem to last very long and if not, they are cheaper than the stock ones. I think they are a good deal all around.

I put the bottom part of the mount on wrong on the first shot but still took about 15 minutes to get both put on, easy enough. The replacement parts are a little different than the originals but close enough to where if you get it wrong, you unthread it and have another go. The top snap ball-joint took a little knack. I'd suggest only removing one, completing the installation, and then doing the next so you have reference to how it all is supposed to be installed..

I got these and I have to say I am disappointed. As some other people noted you have to get another washer or they are really loose. But that isn't the worst of it, they are not smooth. On the travel up they are not consistant even after I made sure they are not binding. The worst part is at the top of their travel instead of slowing to a stop like the stock ones did these bang into the end of there travel and shake the whole hatch. They aren't worth returning but if I ever have it to do again I will bite the bullet and get the stock ones from majestic because these are junk by comparison.

My stock lift cylinders were junk when I bought the car but I've had plenty of hatch backs in my time for comparison, for my money they work just fine and I would buy them again. Not sure what is up with them not traveling smoothly, mine are nice and smooth through the entire travel from closed to full open. You are correct that they open with authority and come to a quick stop at the top of the travel but it isn't anything I can not live with.

Mine seem fine. Mine fit just fine and don't seem loose at all once you figure the right order or assembly since the washers and spacer rings aren't identical. They are definitely more powerful than even new stock ones that I've seen others at Madison HybridFest on their cars. They don't seem to slam too hard to the top to me, at least nothing that I would consider damaging, that hatch is pretty tough I carried a bike hatch mounted on a multi-mile dirt road that was very rough at it handled it. On the way up it does slow down a little for a half second about half the way up but it isn't slow going up.

If these were more expensive than the stock ones and I was pickier about the operation of my shocks, I'd go with stock ones but in comparison these were dirt cheap and will likely last much longer, they've got some beef to them and I'll take that over the known short life of the stock hatch struts, especially when I'm planning to hang on to the car for a long time and don't want to think about replacing them every 2-3 years.

My only complaint was the lack of proper hardware as mentioned, but it's not that big of a deal overall, they stll work great. I didn't even bother to find and put an extra washer in there.

I also noticed that they allow the hatch to slam a bit at the top of travel, but I don't see this as a problem. It's not violent or anything. I think it's because they have slightly more travel than the stock struts?

But yes, for the price I'm not complaining. Maybe the seller can tweak the hardware a bit, then they would be perfect.

Thumbs up Good replacement part

Got a set and installed with great ease.
I agree with the comments above regarding the inner plastic bushings being slightly too short and the top-of-travel issue.

Overall... the options in Canada are:
- $160 (!!!) per unit from Honda (if you can find one)
or
- $77.48 US (shipped to NB) for the set and you get your hands free hatch back

No brainer eh!

Use an oil drain washer as a spacer, takes the rattle from the attachment.
