Default UK Insight Gen 1 84k 72mpg lifetime

Needs some attention...

Honda Insight Coupe Generation 1 2001 | eBay

Combine this with other parts currently on eBay for £300 and you have yourself a very very cheap low mileage gen 1.

Anyone want to organise a group buy and UK strip down?

Like the one we did before?

I can, and it's not far from me, and I have trailer etc to collect if it helps. First dibs on CD changer and possibly drivers door. Pity to scrap it if it's repairable though?

Last time we did this we agreed a date for the strip down and all put in x pounds.

X pounds = number of particpants divided by the price.

We started a list on here of what parts we wanted.

RETEPSNIKREP IMA motor and IMA switch board from battery pack.
LEFTFIELD UK CD changer and drivers door.

Then we all turned up on the day like a bunch of locusts and devoured it. Copius fluids and bacon sarnies were reqd/supplied by a friend of mine as when we did the one up here it was boiling!!

We weighed the shell and other odd bits in for scrap and got back about £150 which I put towards a gadget for the benefit of the general UK insight community.

If someone wants to organise it all and the purchase the vehicle on our behalf i'm happy to send my contribution via paypal or cash on the date.

It would obviously be a huge stretch for me to assist with the dis-assembly, but if there were ANY way I could end up with the green seat covers, I would be willing to do whatever it would take.

It does seem a shame to break up a repairable car, though.

Thanks guys!

Sam

I can provide the venue, and have a 4 post lift, jacks etc to hand. I also can ship parts via FedEx/UPS etc if necessary. I'd certainly like to share the experience with old hands, to see how an Insight comes apart without breaking too many clips and trims off my own car learning the hard way!
I suppose it sort of depends on what the final price gets to and how many participants want to get involved. I don't particularly want to be left with a pile of parts that I don't need, or find myself with the world's most expensive CD changer for example! But in theory I'm in.
As for repairing it, I think there are complications with insurance and future value of cars that have been registered Cat C write-off. So unless you were prepared to accept that, it may be better to strip it in order to keep the "clean" cars going for a bit longer.

LeftField if you are willing to org anise and host then that's great.

I suggest you look at the last car strip down thread and PM everyone who expressed an interest or who took part. Ditto the UK 2012 gathering thread.

2012 UK Insight Owners Day

Potential UK Scrap Yard Insight

A lot of people won't know about this thread as they are irregular visitors.

What is your postcode so we can look at costs of traveling? Distance.

I suggest others add their parts requests to the list and quote what has gone before.

The last one was a jolly good day out and much fun had by all IIRC.

We need a minimum of 8-10 people IMO to make the strip down cost effective and doable in a day without being completely knackered.

I am at NN11 3DP, pretty central for everyone I should think. less than 10 miles from M40 J11, or less than 20 from J16 or 18 M1.
How do we make sure we're not all bidding against each other?

You bid on our behalf or we contact the seller and negotiate a price outside of e-bay.

I doubt it will sell at current e-bay starting price.
