Default Chevy Volt?

I was falling asleep in bed last night and thought i heard a commercial about an electric chevy car. Was it a dream? Well, google told me this morning that it was definitely not a dream!

http://www.chevrolet.com/electriccar/

Any info?

Says it is a concept car, so that probably means not available for sale for forever, then why run commercials? Show how "green" you are?

Notice they didn't mention range or did I miss that?

Chevy is also touting a small car with an EPA MPG of 40! On this end I consider forty MPG for the day as a bad day, as opposed to the best I can expect to do.

As for Toyota and Honda, management at these two firms has probably forgotten more about the automotive future here in the States than management collectively at GM, Ford and Chrysler now know.

I got a flyer in the mail from GM the other day that was touting how green they are. There was a list of suggestions about how to live green. One of them: "Don't take the receipt from the ATM. It wastes paper."

That plus ads for a bunch of concept cars. GM is in big trouble.

I hope the Volt works out better than Chevy's EV1. If you have not seen the documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car" it is a must see.

Why am I not surprised at that? They're probably using lead acid cells in those things. What a waste of time, talent and treasure.

Any of you want to have some fun? Compare the asking price for the "Volt" against some of the EV convesion kits available for vehicle bodies which are about the size of the Chevy Volt and see what range you might expect - for the same, if not half the price..With the new lithium cells now becoming available, those EV converted cars and the ones now being converted will probably more than double that range, a hundred or more miles per charge.

Glad I'd put down my cup of hot coffee before reading that one! :-)

They mention lion in the article. They also mention that most people have a small commute, so the range isn't an issue, and for longer range it uses an ICE for either charging the batteries or for propulsion (I'm not sure which). It will be interesting to see this car make production, but I am still sitting on the fence concerning whether the American car makers will actually produce car with decent mpg ratings, or keep pushing the garbage that 30mpg is super!!!
