I don't know why they have to be so negative and secretive about these things. Maybe it has to do with the "almighty" $.
HUH
Read this thread Honda sent _letters_ to some owners that could be located (by their warranty registered address).
Secretive
Now a service writer having a bad day and knowing he must be _ABSOLUTELY_ precise in his answer or his a** will be on the line and making a mistake on the "relatively" safe side for a hypothetical multi thousand dollar repair...
I appreciate your reply and understand where you are coming from. I did get a letter on my other insight, none on this one.
They do have to "watch ther words", I see that. I should just say that customer service could have been better. They were the same way when I brought my CRV in. I guess it IS my choice where to bring it. My fault he was not very nice? could have been, but for what reason? Oh well. I used to drive 1500 miles to this same dealer to get maintenance on my accord done. And this is no joke. I guess things change............
Got the insight back and asked how long this battery would be warranteed for and the service manager said "until ten years or 150,000 miles" I said "additional?" and he said "No, just within the same warrantee that was now with the car." I said that it had 93000 on it now, just for clarification, would that mean only until my car reached 150,000? And he said "Yes, otherwise, if it was PAST the ten years or 150,000 miles it would only have a warrantee of a year from the date they put it in.
Just information for the rest of you who have not had this done.
Glad it is done, don't look forward to it in my other insight. I think I will probably try another dealer for my other insight, when it happens.

Warranty Extension: Insight Integrated Motor Assist Battery Module
Dear Insight Owner:
This letter is to notify you of a warranty extension on your vehicle's integrated motor assist (IMA) battery Module. Warranty Extension Details
The integrated motor assist (IMA) system in your vehicle assists the gasoline engine for better acceleration. To ensure the IMA system remains in top condition, we are announcing a warranty extension for the IMA battery module. The IMA battery module is now covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
If the IMA indicator on your vehicle's instrument panel stays on while you are driving, take your vehicle to any Honda dealer for an inspection. If the dealer finds the problem to be the IMA battery module, they will replace it. Depending on your vehicle's year and model, the dealer will also replace one or two additional control modules in the IMA system. This work will be done free of charge. Please plan to leave your vehicle at the dealer for a day to allow them flexibility in scheduling.
What to do if you feel this notice is in error
Our records show that you are the current owner or lessee of a 2000-04 Insight receiving this warranty extension.
If this is not the case, or the name/address information is incorrect, please fill out and return the enclosed postage paid Information Change Card. We will then update our records.
If you paid to have a defective IMA battery module replaced sometime in the past, you may be eligible for reimbursement. Refer to the attached Instructions for Reimbursement for eligibility requirements and the reimbursement procedure.
If you have questions.
If you have questions about this notice, or need help contacting a Honda dealer, please call Honda Automobile Customer Service at (800) 999-1009.
Sincerely,
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Honda Automobile Division

Re: US IMA warranty 10 year extension UPDATED to all 50 states!
I must say I am both shocked, and impressed by what I am reading in these threads.
This is making my choice to buy a used 2000 Insight much easier. -John
Re: US IMA warranty 10 year extension UPDATED to all 50 states!
I just had avondale honda (arizona) replace the IMA, batteries, etc etc. at 70k on my 2000 inight (5 speed). The full monty so they say. My cost, ZERO. Took them 4 days to receive parts and turn around the repair. They even cleaned and washed my car. Spotless. I have noticed that my mileage seems slightly better than prior to the IMA light of death. I am now running relaibly in the 65+ per tank. You just gotta love this thing!
Re: US IMA warranty 10 year extension UPDATED to all 50 states!
. NEW UPDATE !!!!
Due to a class action lawsuit that Honda settled reguarding odometer error and true mileage the IMA battery on 02-04 Insights purchased between 4/13/02 and 11/7/06 is now _extended_ to 157,500 miles No extension on the time limit, 10 years still applies. The same Honda Service bulletin numbers apply, but are updated in a new release dated 2/5/08.
Not the original owner? Not to worry as long as your within the above limitations _and_ the car has not been declared a total loss (accident damage, flood damage, etc. _reguardless_ of whether or not it has been "restored"). If the original sale papers are lost you'll need to contact Honda customer relations with your VIN number to get the original purchase date and confirm your within the limitations. A "used" purchase date does not apply. The original factory warranty is with the car, a transfer is not required.
The lawsuit originated in Texas, Google it up if your interested in the details.
Nope, 00-01's or 05-06's are NOT included. Lawsuit language vs. goodwill tends to be restrictive like that.
Like Darwin9x above, if you've paid out of pocket for repairs and are within the above limitations you can apply for reembursement from Honda.
