Do yourself a favor and purchase a copy of the TSB. Then you can simply show it to the person you are speaking to.

Thanks, I actually have a copy, just didn't have it in hand today. Will try again with it in hand. However, this particular dealer seems to take pride in their ignorance. At least the first dealer I tried acknowledged the SB, they just misinterpreted it.
Can't say I'm surprised, but Honda is disregarding the demand letter. Their response to it:
"We have reviewed your request for assistance in the replacement of the IMA battery per TSB #06-057. As the in service date of the vehicle is 03/xx/02 it is outside the parameters as indicated by the warranty extesnion. At this time American Honda is unable... blah blah blah."
So that's how you get a written decline for warranty services, since they refused to send it in the first place when I asked over the phone. Ridiculous.
I guess this response will be Exhibit B. Still no one else getting this BS treatment?
I just turned over 100k. Hope my battery goes before 150k so I can get a fresh pack to last for the life of the car. I plan on keeping mine for a long time.

Am I to assume that the IMA warranty on my 2000 Insight runs out on December 31st of 2010? I've just gone over 70k miles and no battery issues. At this point, is it insane or immoral to almost WANT the thing to stop working so I can get it covered?
Thinking I should start driving some long road trips in very hot climates.

Just wanted to clarify, but the class action lawsuit was only for the inaccurate odometers, correct? Was there no class action that spawned the original IMA battery warranty extension to 150k?
Just wanted to post with an update that Honda finally caved, sort of. Took two demand letters, 4 months, but my battery pack has been replaced. In the end, Honda is maintaining that my car was never covered under this warranty but they agreed to a "good will" gesture. My interpretation of this conclusion is that they may look to use this same approach to deny IMA warranty replacements on other pre-April 2002 Insights.
Thank you to everyone here who chimed in and helped me understand the context of the TSBs and warranty. It's good to be back on the road again.

Glad you got some positive resolution. There is at least one other year 2000 owner on this forum who is having the same unbelievable response from American Honda right now. I'm absolutely amazed at this. I've read the TSB. It clearly states that the extended warranty covers all 2000-2004 Insights. Its really amazing.
Hi everyone, just joined today to ask for advice after reading this thread.
I own a 2001 insight (I am in California) bought it used from a lady who bought it used from the SF honda dealer. It currenty has about 137,000 miles. IMA light came on, battery is not charging like it used to. I called the dealer in SF and in another city are both telling me it has only a 8 year or 80,000 mile warrenty. I don't have a letter stating that notice that was mentioned earlier in this thread. Suggestions?
