The "fix" is _only_ when the IMA light comes on with a "battery code of death" and your outside the "old" warranty period. EDIT: oops my BAD. Read Ricky's post of the bulletin on page one.[end]

If you live in the right state _and_ your within 10/150K then the battery replacement is covered.

With that said there have been 2 (IIRC) credible past reports in here of IMA battery _failure_ AND no code(s). There's where the going may get tougher.

I totally agree with this. when I called Honda to inquire what exactly severe driving conditions entailed he confirmed that based on weather, they could be considered across most of america (http://www.insightcentral.net/forum/vie ... 3103#43103). Ridiculous![/url]

So do we actually have to take our cars in for the Dealership to replace something or do we wait until something happens? The letter I just received says to take it in. But my Insight has been fine and I hate for Dealership service goons to touch my car.

Great news since I might be moving to Southern Florida later this summer!

We sent a respectful letter to American Honda asking that they consider extension of the IMA warranty for all states, as many other states share corresponding/identical topography and ambient conditions to those 7 states currently awarded the extension.

Honda telephoned to say there are no plans to extend the warranty to sweltering hot Alabama nor to any state, other than those designated. As far as customer satisfaction, the approach is puzzling. People tend to resent inequities.

We'll leave it. Honda will do as they see Fit and we're busy. The Insight will always be a great car and Honda support should remain good, no matter what state the vehicle is in. Still, keeping an eye open for the Reflex.

I respectfully suggest you take it in and get 'er done, like Larry the Cable Guy would suggest.

I just took mine in two days ago for the required service. I've had my issues with my dealer before (wrong oil, wrong CVT fluid, messing with the tire pressure, et al, arrrrrgh) so this time, I called ahead to make sure the parts or whatever would be in stock... and made an appointment for this last Tuesday. At first, the service rep could not find my appointment, and had no clue about a recall on Insights, "and [he] would know." But then the young lady I spoke to appeared and all was well. Their Shuttle took me back home, and six hours later, picked me up again and took me to the dealer to pick up my newly-invigorated Insight. $1,700+ to change out things and reprogram electronic brains, all covered under warranty for me. I didn't see any "goons," (my dealership, although sometimes clueless with an admittedly rare bird, is filled with ordinary, nice, normal people like you and me, usually) everyone was super nice, some complimented me on how clean and "new" my car looked, and one of the sales"goons" even had the courtesy to ask if he could show his curious customers my car before I drove off, as he was in the middle of a HCH sale.

Only 75 miles driven from the change, but I can report (is it my imagination?!?) I have gained the ability to maintain my MPG bars above the 75 dot a LOT easier than before... but more startling, my SOC gauge has NOT dropped from 20 bars, where usually it remains at one bar down, maybe 2 once in a rare while.

I'll drive it some more this week and next, so I can put another 150-200 miles on it, and try to report any observations before I leave the country in July... But so far, happy camper here...

I was out driving around and found myself near the Honda dealership so thought I might as well drop in and see what they could do for my 02. The service rep looked up the VIN, which had the 'PUD' service bulletin noted--the BCM replacement. Apparently he thought mine was an 01 because he ordered both the BCM & MCM . He also printed out the actual service bulletin for me. The parts should be in within the week, so I hope to be op-testing it out next week sometime.

Also, the replacement doesn't appear to be tied to the IMA light, as no one even asked me about my light (which isn't on).

Just in time for my road trip to Spokane...woo-hoo

Took my 2001 in for major service, informed them about the warranty notice. Asked for them to check the codes as I have had some pop up and self clear, was informed IMA needs replacing so they ordered it and I'm waiting for it

I don't know, I really have issues letting some dealership service goon touching my car. They always make things worse. I have yet to have a good experience with them.
