Re: Insight hit a deer - will this effect warranty?
Hi Jim And welcome to the forum.
IMO as long as its not towed in for the IMA warranty extension there will be no questions asked. With such "limited" accident damage you should still qualify for the extension. However, if it ends up being totaled then your out of luck in more ways than one.
And as I replied in the locked thread (multi-posted, redirected to this thread) the only written information we have to date is in the warranty extension letter (see the first post(s) of this thread).
Sorry if it's not the answer you want.
If you really _need_ to know then call Honda and ask them
Here is the story of my warranty extension experience:
Wayne Gerdes (xcel) always preached the theory that if you want your battery to last, don't use it! This isn’t that easy to do with a CVT and, with the hills on my commute, my battery has been drained (to about 50% when it was good) and then recharged to full twice everyday for the last three years. I figured it would be a good test of the opposite of the IMA battery life theory.
Sure enough in May (at 75,000 miles) I noticed it was discharging more on the hills and then taking longer to recover. My 12v started to die at about the same time and I thought that that was what was causing the IMA battery's problems. I had the 12v replaced but the discharge/charge cycle didn't really improve. I got the recall/extended warranty letter and had both modules replaced even though I knew my battery was on the way out. Discharge/charge time continued to get longer and longer.
Then it happened, on popped the IMA light at 80,449 miles! I was on my way to work so I went straight to the dealer (who has done many battery replacements in the past). A quick check and the new battery was ordered. It took two weeks to arrive and in that time my old battery went downhill fast. I had always read about recals but it was kind of funny to actually see them happen. The SoC would drop down to two bars and then slowly try to come back up until presto, back to full charge. It was like the computer just gave up trying and said, "Let's start over from the top!".
The IMA battery has now been replaced and everything is working wonderfully. The SoC drops to about 55% going up the hills and fully recharges (quickly!) on the downhill side. Assist is always there when I need it and my mileage, which only dropped by about 2mpg, is back to normal as well. And of course the best part, everything was replaced under warranty. Thank you, Honda! Thank you, thank you!

I took my insight in right after the extension@138k they replaced the BCM ECM, 2 weeks ago with the car now at 153k the IMA light comes on. Take it to another dealer, it needs a new battery. Honda covers the part I cover the labor($355).

Yes!!! I finally got a P1447 battery deterioration.
Last Friday, I got FIVE recals in my daily commute. It was a new record. Three years ago, , occasionally one. Last year, two a day. Late this spring, I started getting three per day. Five was a new record. I didn't drive it over the weekend. Monday morning I took off with only about 50% charge. In about 10 miles, I got a recal. I reset by disconnecting the negative cable for a few seconds. It regained full charge in a couple of miles. In about 15 miles I had another recal. I didn't stop. I let it recharge on it's own. After about five miles, the charge went to 100% and the IMA light came on. I read the code today and it was P1447 battery code of death. I left the car at the dealership tonight so I should find out something tomorrow. This dealership confirmed that my 2000 was covered under the extension a couple of months ago. It now has 137000 miles.

I left my car (2000 137,000) at Ike's Honda at Marion, IL last night. This morning about 9:30 a.m. , Wayne the service manager
called and said a NEW battery pack was ordered under the 150,000 extended warranty that included the BCM and battery. $0.00 for the parts and $0.00 for the labor. New pack should be in next Wednesday! So far, So GOOD!!! THANK YOU MR. HONDA and IKE'S HONDA!!!!!
