Default My First Tank - So how'd I do??

68 avg mpg (30% city, 70% highway) - 660 miles. Now I know the low fuel light works too. I think for the first two weeks on the road I didn't do to bad. Trying to get well above 70 avg on tank number two.

Has anyone received any comments while driving around recently?

Today I got a big thumbs up on the highway - the fellow driving yells out his window "SxxW OPEC!

Congratulations! If you have a five speed you should be able to get around 70 on average in normal driving conditions.

There has been discussion here about whether it's a good idea to fill up the tank "as full as possible" (risk of getting liquid into places where the liquid isn't supposed to go) and also about running the tank really low (risk of overheating the fuel pump. Many of us are happy to report segment mileages over, say, 250 miles...

With only two weeks on the road, you have nothing to be ashamed of but you'll find as time and experience kick in, odds are you'll do a lot better, especially since you're driving an Insight with a manual transmission.

Best of luck with the car!
