Default Thank You Members / My first tank=75.6mpg at 801.7 miles

I just wanted to say thanks to all the members who have contributed to this forum.

I purchased my used 2000 Insight and have really been enjoying the car. I filled up my first tank on October 16, 2007 and filled up for the second time today, November 13, 2007 after covering 801.7 miles and 10.3 gallons of fuel. The car gave me 75.6 MPG for the tank but my hand calculation came up with 77.83 MPG (801.7/10.3).

I have been using the driving techniques and a few modificaitons I found on this site (increased psi, radiator block, engine block heater, warm-air mod). To date, my best door to door commute to work has been 91MPG covering 21 miles and my worst has been 71 MPG . You know you are a hyper-miler when you are upset over 71 MPG. I also achieved 98.4 MPG the other day on a 15.3 mile trip but the conditions were near perfect - tail wind, flat road, little traffic.

I'm sure my driving technique and mileage will improve with time as I learn more. Thanks again for the valuable information and keep on posting

True, it's contagious and it looks like you've got a serious case of hypermiler syndrome.

My work commute covers roughly 20 miles from my subdivision into uptown Dallas covering mostly freeway. I drive with traffic which usually flows from 45-55 mph. However, more often than not, the freeway is too congested and I have to use sidestreets which negatively impacts my mpg. This was the case today and I only obtained 72mpg door to door.

However, I love a car where I am dissappointed with "only" 72 mpg
