. What is a typical life mpg of the insights?
I. understand about not knowing how to drive them yet, ... iit was an automatic, but I didn't think that would lower it to the point of a normal car. ?
. What are some of the things I really need to consider if I buy a car sight unseen?
. What are some of the questions I should ask?
. What kind of miles can I reasonably expect from the Insight?

As understood here, the mpg of an "typical" Insight - there may be no such thing.
if I'm not mistaken you were talking about test driving the car in cold weather and if that was so, consider for a moment the mpg ratings the "normal" cars were getting at the same time you were involved in that test drive. There's only three cyllnders in that little Insight engine, so odds are those "normal cars" were probably getting a lot less in mpg use than you were getting at the time.
As for buying a car "sign unseen" I can offer the following:
I'm in sales and years of experience has shown me that the vast majority of people you meet are a decent and honest lot but yes, you're correct to suspect that there are thieves and liars out there.
While some may laugh at the suggestion, I ask you, is there a local lawyer near you who you trust? Do one of your friends or neighbors whose opinions you trust, know of one?
In any event, after contacting a seller who may have an Insight you're interested in, then go about getting from the seller as much information as you can about the car - in writing. Ask the seller about the car, repeating each and every one of his/her claims which you may have seen in advertising as well as what he/she may have told you about the car over the telephone or in person. Odds are they're "puffing it" a bit and that is permitted - outright falsehoods are not.
Check with your local DMV, who probably has a web site with information about how to go about checking up on a specific car; you'll need the VIN, along with the make and model.
if at all practical for you, a test drive would be in your interest and if your husband isn't knowledgable regarding automotive affairs, I'll be there's a local Honda dealer near where the car is, who for a small fee, will be glad to inspect the car for you - keep in mind, these cars are different, internally as well as externally from anything you may be used to up to this point in time.
And yes, the man, Douggie I believe it was, was correct when he suggested that if you're going to be driving in a lot of stop and go traffic, the little Insight may NOT be the right car for you. Perhaps you should be looking at a converted and now an all electric vehicle or perhaps you should be looking at something like the Aptera, whose manufacturer is in California and who is now taking deposits for the car which I believe is due to come out this Fall. It'll cost you slightly more than a used ("pre-owned") Honda Insight but there clearly appears to be an outstanding two seater about hit the American highways.
Hope this helps.
