Default Any precaution to work under the hood?

I will be removing the egr, and flushing the 5spd tranny on the insight this weekend, and was wondering: when I pull the plug off the egr, do I need to do anything to the car first to eliminate the risk of being shocked by the ima pack? As long as I am not opening up the yellow covered harness, or working on the ima components, can I just fiddle around as usual, or is there protocol? Will disconnecting the 12v batt make it safer to work on a hybrid?
Thanks guys,
Frank

btw-a service manual is in the mail, so I cant consult that yet.

Connected to the battery pack, there's some off-switch to disconnect it.

That's all I know.

No danger with the egr and IMA.

As with any car:

Key out of ignition,
parking brake set,
wheels chocked,
solid means of elevated support, ie: jackstands or ramps. DO not rely on a hydraulic jack if you are under the car.

You have to have a very small tube on a funnel to refill the trans. Some sort of pump would be much quicker. Be sure and use a trans fluid specified for a Honda hybrid. The synchronizers are very finicky and will grind with the wrong fluid.

egr- 15 minutes

trans- 1-2 hrs

Cool! What is your preferred method of cleaning the egr, and did it work? mpg difference? I used to flush with a pump on my 91 civic hatch, but found it to be much easier to drain like engine oil, and fill thru the speed sensor hole (on top of the tranny) with a funnel attached to 3/4in clear hose from the hardware store. I just fill it till it starts coming out of the fill hole on the side, and thats it. I will change the mtf like 3 times over the next month or so to totally remove all the old fluid. It takes about as long as changing the engine oil. The insight takes regular honda mtf from what I have heard.
