Default Zeroing the lifetime reading

Hi all,

What is the consensus here about zeroing the lifetime average when you take ownership of a car so that the figure then relates to you and not the previous owners.

It makes sense to me, especially if you think you are going to improve on the figure already stored, but is there something I am missing here, as some seem to be working steadily at raising the figure they inherited with the car.

Seems to me that the figure you would end up with is still valid as the figure is more representative of the figure the car would have got if you had owned it from new.

I am assuming here that when you follow the instructions to delete the present figure the total mileage figure stays intact.

You could always record the previous LMPG and odometer reading before you reset it, and save them (in the glove box perhaps). They could be used to reconstruct the car's LMPG if it is ever wanted.

Using the A or B tripmeters to track your own LMPG can be risky. I have inadvertently reset mine several times. I use the "A" for my daily average mpg and the "B" for my tank mpg. Fortunately I record the odometer reading and volume of gas pumped at each refilling in a spreadsheet so I didn't lose any data.

i kept the original owners data (60.3) and keep track of mine in an on-line database starting as if i just bought the car new. that way the car shows the lifetime data and the database shows what i have done. fyi, my effort is up to 69.9. i dont remember what the car is showing, but the end of this tank will see 100,000 miles.

btw, welcome!
