Here in Texas, we refer to a one-word reply for such intransigence. It's slightly rude (forgive me) but quite effective, so please allow me to introduce it yo you for your benefit. Use it exclusively, loudly, and if required, repeatedly in response to their lame excuses until they provide you with the appropriate Honda-mandated oil for your car at no charge to you:

Again, I suggest you have them say that to their Honda superiors at Honda Customer Service while you listen in. I bet they change their tune. Tell those idiots not to patronize you with erroneous information... or you will cause the stink of BS to follow them wherever they go henceforth...

In case you haven't done so already, start a diary on this "issue". Record each event and each conversation, along with the date and time, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT, the name of the person you spoke with. Make a point to ask them their name, makes them aware that you will be able to attribute what they said to them personally, not just the dealership. And don't be afraid to call Honda corporate to air your issue and open a case about it.
It's important that a HONDA DEALER correctly service your HONDA CAR. You can bet that later on down the road if you have any engine troubles, you'll wonder if this "issue" contributed to the problem, and it's a guarantee that this dealer won't care one bit.
By opening a case with Honda, you're documenting the "issue". Get the case number and record it in your diary.

Sixty five pounds for an oil change? That's pretty outrageous!
In my opinion, this sort of thing is not really worth getting all worked up about. You've found a dud Honda dealer, which is not all that uncommon. My fear would be that if they're not Insight-savvy then there's a good chance they might screw up something else next time around.
Personally I would suggest that you start changing your own oil...much cheaper and you can do it the way you want...
By a happy/unhappy coincidence, I came across this thread today just a few days after my Insight was serviced so I double-checked the service checksheet and found the oil used was unspecified. A quick call to the Honda dealership has established that, yes, they put 10w/40 in it!
The consequence for me too has been a steady 10 per cent increase in consumption which I'd put down to the very cold weather. The service manager maintains that his (Honda) documentation allows for both oils but he has offered to change the oil in the morning.
It's probably naive but, even though I haven't owned a Honda before, I've always gained the impression that the Honda network is amongst the gold standard of the industry. And now you're going to tell me I'm wrong. . .
I get my car serviced 80 miles from home because I trust the dealership to do a good job and i have been going there for 3 years - my local Honda dealer cant even source B391 Bridgestone tyres and i wouldnt trust them to service my car

Please reply with "BS" and have him show you in writing where in the world Honda has optioned 10w40 oil.
And just this week, I had my latest oil change and yes, they used 0w2o like they were supposed to and gave me the half-filled container like they were supposed to and day-amn if they didn't drop my tires to 32# all around after I told them to leave the tires alone and even going to the trouble of removing the clearly-marked 50# pressure-gauge valve caps I have on each tire to do so.
Some people should be slapped and sterilized for the greater good...

Before reading all this I thought I was the only one who had issues with Honda Servicing........to the point of sleepless nights. The last time I had the car done (and I mean done) was in Hemel Hempstead, they use the wrong oil, they use wrong size window wipers, wrong tyre pressures, they add screen wash when its already full, they pretend to valet the car, and just to finish, the last service they didn't notice that the two engine earthing straps were broken? luckly I noticed whilst trying to figure out why they forgot to refit my engine cover.
My car is now overdue a service but I'm not getting value for money from Honda, so Im gonna find the oil I need and do what I can myself.
To be fair to Honda, shoddy standards is typical of nearly all car servicing at main dealerships in the UK. Audi have the cheek to charge £200 per hour for their mechanics and there are plenty of complaints about them too. The trick is to find a good independent. At present I am driving to Warwickshire for the day to get my current car properly looked after...
