Default Greetings from new member

I have just aquired a 2002 Honda Insight with 113K miles from a dealer in Virginia Beach, Virginia via EBAY.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0217682632

1) I wanted to post a message here in case the former owner is a member.

2) has anyone looked at the feasability of rebuilding a Honda battery pack useing A123 M1 cells. I note that RC modelers are using them to replace NMh in some of thier planes with very good results.

After reading several reviews regards the Insight I was very pleasently suprised by the power (acceleration) it had both from a standing start and in overtaking vehicles at interstate speeds.

Regards,

Welcome Lewis,

Congratulations on your new Insight! There are many discussions about building your own battery packs. It is very difficult though. Search through the forum archives and you will find much on the topic. However, please note that your hybrid battery is still under warranty (assuming you have a clean title). The warranty was extended to 10 years/150,000 miles.

Thank Bryan. I looked a several threads but did not see snything specific to the M1. I ran through some numbers and they look like a good alternative (even at todays prices). I am just trying to plan for the long term and the price of the M1 cells should come down.

Does not seem to be much I can do to improve the Insight other than some window tint and floor mats .. :>).

cheers,

Lewis

Welcome to the forum and I look forward to your future contributions. It looks like you got a great buy. You may also want to check out 99mpg.com. Mike has done some extensive modifications and research regarding the battery.

Enjoy
