Default new owners questions

hi all i have just purchased a 2000 insight cvt, i have never owned a hybrid car before and am extremely pleased with the insight. my last car was a volvo s70 which i mainly used for a weekly round trip of 180 miles and i never saw more than 30 mpg (uk Gallons), having done this trip for the first time in the insight i mananged 76mpg one way and 70mpg back.
My car is a japanese import and has the honda sat nav system which is currently showing that im in japan althought i live in ireland, i was wondering if it is it possible to use this sat nav system to display irish roads?
Also below the steering colum there is a gadget called honda access which seems to accept a card? i have no idea what this is for?
My car has 65000 miles and i was wondering how soon will it need a battery replacement, i have no warranty!!
Hope you can answer some of my questions, thanks for youre time.

Hi and welcome.

In order of priority IMO your questions

1) Battery, no one knows how long it/they will last, depends on your driving style, battery age, individual manufacturing variations, temperature etc etc.
It's not the end of the world if it does fail anyway, have a read of some of the threads on here about batteries, it can be replaced, repaired and or re-balanced if reqd.

2) Sat nat sorry I've no idea on that.

3) Honda Access thingy, sorry no idea again.

Try searching the forum for your answers someone may have already asked the same questions.

Hello and congratulations..... you have joined a very exclusive (but not snobby) club. I was fortunate enough to purchase a 2003 CVT with 82,000 miles last year and haven't had any problems with the battery. I understand the CVTs are generally easier on the batteries and associated electronics than the 5-speeds (do a search to find related posts on this forum). In the U.S. the battery is covered by a 150,000 mile warranty as long as you don't have a salvage title.

Hi Gerry,

I am sure you will enjoy your new car and hope the fact that some of us might hit bigger figures in our manual cars will not get on your nerves.

Stick your home town into your profile so we all know roughly where you are....Oh, and if you don't convert all your milage figures into American gallons you might get a polite repremand

jf_cole is an irish member on here so you can check him out

Have fun,

Rog
