Default New UK member and owner!!

Just a quick post to say hi to everyone.

I registered on here a few weeks ago to try to get some more info on insights before trying to find one, they are after all a bit thin on the ground in the UK. Anyway as luck would have it I stumbled accross one yesterday, went to see it this evening and put a deposit on it!! Picking it up next week, I cant wait!!

Anyway Ive got a blue manual transmission one with just over 100k miles on the odometer. It was a Honda demo car originally, but after that has only had the one owner. Its got full dealer service too!! It does have a few little niggles though so I will be sure to start bothering some of you for advice quite soon!!

Regards, Joel

Welcome to the forum Billysan,

Lots of good information and people here to help you get the best out of your Insight.
In fact there is so much info that it's usually best to do a search for whatever thing you want to know about. It's usually been discussed here before, lol sometimes to death.

Case in point: windshield wipers, you'll probably need 'em where you are..I use the Bosch Icons, very slick but pricey.

Cheers

Hi Billysan

You bought the Insight on autotrader? That was quite a good price. Hope you enjoy

Let us know your problems and we will sort them out for you!

Yep I got the one in the trader. Ive been searching for a manual one for ages. I just missed out on the gray manual one that was on there a month or so ago. We struck the deal at £5200. I would have paid more because Ive been looking for one for ages but one of the problems might be expensive so we factored that into the price.

I'll put a more detailed post up in the problems section later when I have more time to give a thorough explanation however to sum it up there are 3 issues that I know of so far. These being;
1. The charge bar lcd is damaged and has 'run'. Only the first 3 bars show normally, the rest is now a big orange blob!! I can easily live with this, but it would be nice to sort out. I imagine a new instrument cluster will be the easiest option, if a bit difficult to find!!
2. The clutch release bearing is noisy. I get the impression the current owner never took his foot off the clutch when making use of the stop kill feature at standstill. A relatively straight forward mechanical fix I know, but Im a bit concerned as to how much the part will cost. Would probably be worth doing the entire clutch at the same time due to age/accessability.
3. There is another noisy bearing in the gearbox somewhere. It is most pronounced in 1st and 2nd gears, but can only really be heard when the clutch is fully engaged, ie the release bearing is not drowning it out. This has potential to be quite expensive I think. Will get a quote from a local gearbox place once I have taken delivery of it.

Apart from that it seems to be in good order!! Im sure I'll find other things though. 100k miles is quite a lot for the age so Im sure things will be starting to show some wear and tear.

PS Im based just outside Exeter down in Devon

Joel

Welcome Joel to the Insight forum and congratulations on your purchase. Unfortunately I am not technically minded and can't help you with your transmission and dashboard but I am sure others on this Forum will be able to give you some advice. The A roads in your area are great for economical driving. I was down your way a few weeks ago for a weekend break and in the unlikely event you don't know it already, I can recommend Jack-in-the-Green in Rockbeare for a decent but pricey meal!

Interesting, I can probably help you with all these problems.

1) I have a spare complete instrument cluster sitting under my bench Prices look horrible online and you would have to repair yours by the look of it.

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/aut ... COMPONENTS

2) I have a clutch on a spare engine and that may be useable, the release bearing is also available. (I would probably buy new parts If I was doing this job though) Bearing looks cheap enough online.

3) I also have a damaged manual gearbox, when I say damaged I mean the bellhousing is damaged, so the internals could be transferred to you box Your gearbox place could probably make up a good one from the two

PM me to discuss. Prices, well the instrument cluster's likely to be the most expensive part by miles Offers?
