Default Picked up my insight last night

All I can say is WOW, what a car. Im totally blown away by it, just how good and how polished it is.

Im the first to admit that I had several reservations about getting it because I didnt really explore it fully on the test drive. However following a 150 mile drive home last night all worries have been completely disregarded.

Another happy insight owner.

PS first time long trip mpg not really knowing the car - 66.7!!

OK here's your new owners jobs list IMO

1) Check and fit correct tyres UK B391 Bridgestone 165/65 R14 and pump up to a least 45psi all round, I run at 55 psi.

2) Check and change oil/filter. Check and change gearbox oil. Check and change air filter. Check brake fluid. basically do a decent service. Watch out for the sump oil drain plug I never use more than 50% of recommended torque

3) Check front earth straps. Plug an odbII code reader in if you can and check for any stored codes.

3.5) Check rear brakes for binding, they should be very loose and wheels spin freely several turns. Handbrake should be slack. If they bind even slightly it's a few mpg

4) Replace the instrument cluster. (Wait until you get your manual for this)

5) Make up the radiator blanking piece and have it ready for cooler temps.

6) Check entire vehicle especially underneath and replace all/any missing bits.

7) Become an mpg nerd and bore all your friends rigid with your new obsession

Learn to get into 'lean burn' and stay there

9) Smile as you only fill up once a month and pay no UK road tax!

amendment:

#2> during the next scheduled oil change & make sure to use 0W20 synthetic is best.
( don't throw away oil you have in the car before next oil change as that is a bit wasteful )

It's not reasonable to expect that anyone could "really explore" these little cars with a first time test drive but "66.7" MPG for a first time run - nice!

Best of luck with that little treasure!

"4) Replace the instrument cluster"

What? Do you mean replace the dashboard? Why?

1) Ive been searching for a set of OE tires but so far had no joy unfortunately. That said I took off all the wheels to give them a good clean tonight and all the tires have loads of tread left so I wont be throwing them away just yet. I set the pressures to 38psi all round too. Im not really into squeezing every possible mpg out of it, I do value grip and safety too. All were between 25 and 30 when I checked them though so even that will make an improvement.

2) Car was serviced at Honda just over 1k miles ago including all filters etc. Ive bought a job lot of oil filters and oil as well though so I can do interim changes myself. Ive still got a 25 ltr container of MTF too from Hondas of old to slowly work my way through.

3) Will read up on the earth strap thing. Car seems to run ok so doubt it will have any codes, will have a check anyway though.

3.5) Rear brakes are spot on

4) Have new cluster, but as yet my manual has not arrived. Should be here Monday hopefully.

5) Ive got at least a couple of months to make some blanks up surely?!

6) Have a ramp booked next week so will do that then.

7) Already becoming an mpg nerd!! Ive taken the majority of honda people I know out in it today and there has not been one who was not seriously impressed. In all honesty though I think I'll just drive it as a normal car and not have to worry about chasing that extra 10mpg. Im more than happy getting 60 odd.

Been playing with the lean burn thing. Think Ive sussed it but the roads and too rolly around here to stay in it for more than 10 seconds. It seems as soon as it goes in I either loose speed fast, or there is another hill in the way!!

9) More like fill up once a week as opposed to every other day!!
