Catfish, get the 'In Service Date' from your dealer. Establish that the In Service Date is less than 10 years ago. If it's more than 10 years ago, there's no point in arguing with American Honda *unless* you can sweet-talk them into a 'goodwill' gesture.
If your In Service Date is less than 10 years ago, you need to act NOW while you still have time. You can attempt calling the American Honda service line repeatedly and hope that one of the representatives who answers actually knows what they're talking about. Few of them do. They generally read something off their computer and take it as fact. If you have a buddy who is a lawyer, draft up a letter on his letterhead demanding that they honor your warranty. I may even be able to give you some of the language I used when arguing with them. I can also tell you who you should send the letter in "Attention" to. Honda is deliberately trying to get out of their committment but there is plenty of documentation and legal precedent on your side. You just have to be persistent.
One thing to note is that if you do send a letter through a lawyer, be prepared for them to call *you* and not your lawyer. They do not want this going to court. They will likely try some BS deal where they offer you 50% off the battery replacement. Be firm with them, let them know you know plenty of individuals who know the legal history on this warranty and that you are prepared to take them to court for the battery, time off work, price of a rental car, and attorney's fees.
BUT, this all rides on your In Service Date, my friend. Get this NOW.
