Default They hurt my Spiff!

This afternoon a Ford Exploiter (explorer) changed lanes in an intersection and hurt my Spiff!!!

Worse yet, they had no insurance, or registration.

At least I hurt their bumper.

Oh, ouch! New headlight, fender, bumper cover, and considerable effort to get the fender attachment point straightened out.

Insured or no, they are liable for the damages done to Spiff. But as the adage goes, you can't get blood from a stone.

I hope insurance in WA is like that in NY, and that your policy covers damage done by uninsured motorists.

Whatever you do, don't let them total Spiff!

They won't get to total it. I have "Uninsured Motorist" coverage, so at the worst it will be $500 (my deductible.) Took the cops 2 hours to arrive, I had to wait, as there was no paperwork for their car.

The mount point looks like the hardest to get right.

The car is "driveable" but the tire bumps the splash shield on bumps so is only going to drive home this evening and then to the shop.

And this was turning out to be my best tank! (Gonna have to drive the Neon the rest of the week.)

People who drive without insurance and/or registration should go directly to jail and stay there awhile.

Good luck getting Spiff spiffied up.

And THAT is why I waited 2 hours for a police officer! (I was an hour late for work, but my boss was very understanding, being an ex-cop.)

Well, the adjuster came by yesterday and did not total it!

I have gone to the repair shop and they have ordered the parts. (take a week to get them all.) Turns out that the fender mount bracket is NOT part of the frame and can be bolt on. (no jimmying it around to get it right.) I was able to bend the bracket and the tire has proper clearance now.

I was finally able to 'tape fix' my front headlight assembly and now am fully street legal. (the turn signal was kaput, turned out to be the plug, not the lamp or fixture.) And my G-Daughter can use it tomorrow for her driving test. (If you cannot parallel park an I1, forget it.)

Spiff will rise again!

I've had nothing but trouble with those fender mount brackets. You can turn that bolt, but it spins freely. I guess the nut on the inside rusts out or breaks free.

I bent the old ones to about the right shape, but I didn't have any references as to exactly where they should go. One of my fenders is just unattached down there.

But if you have a guy doing the repair work, I'm sure he'll figure it out just fine.

Insurance is getting a shop to get it done right, and the brace is still attached, they should be able to see where they take it off to put the new one on.
