Unhappy VIN advice/help?

Hi everyone - could you please possibly help me out with my vehicle ID number? I am importing an Insight from Japan and the number they have provided is:
ZE1-1000197.

Thats it. So I seem to be missing various digits - can anyone shed any light on what the full VIN should be. I am trying to arrange insurance and I am struggling with that number. Many thanks in advance for your input.

The VIN number from a Japanese import car is not as described in the Insight Encyclopaedia.
I have a Japanese import as well and my VIN has the same format as yours. Pretty much meaningless.

thanks for the replies. Dinther do you have the VIN stamped on the car in that format? If so I wonder why they have all the other information missing, such as manufacturer, model type etc that exists on a normal style VIN. Did you have any issues registering your vehicle in NZ?

that is a normal VIN. It's normal for the Japanese cars.

the first three are what specific model it is; in this case ZE1. the crx would get EF7, EF8, and other cars like the Integra would be DC1, DC2, etc. the last numbers after that is the serial number.
