Default Hi, New to Insight Central!

Hello,

My name is Derek from Northern California and I have been lurking the forum for about a week now. I have found it to be very insightful! For the longest time I have been looking for a clean, low mileage Honda Civic VX. However last week I drove a 1st generation Honda Insight and was very impressed by the design. Despite it only having two seats, I was blown away by how many mpg the car is capable of obtaining.
I have a question. Is the mpg number on the left side of the gauge cluster the lifetime mpg number or the current mpg number? If anyone in California wants to sell their 1st generation insight to me please let me know.

What I am looking for:

-2000-2003 (only want gray interior) Silverstone Metallic, MT 5-speed
-clean title
-no accidents or repaints
-never modified in any way
-California HOV stickers
-Preferrably under 40k miles

Willing to pay up to $8,000 depending on the condition of your vehicle. I have cash in hand! Please let me know if you have one for sale. I would appreciate it.

It depends. The "trip" button on the right side of the bottom edge of the cluster toggles between Trip A, Trip B, and Lifetime.

Unless the FCD button on the left side of the dash has been pressed, in which case the MPG for the current segment will appear. If this is the case, pressing the FCD button briefly will switch back to the Trip A/B/Lifetime mode.

Good luck finding an Insight with such low miles - a MY2000 with under 40K miles may mean more problems than you think especially with regard to the batteries... that equates to under 4K per year. You may want to rethink what it is you're looking for. What are you hoping to accomplish with those low miles?

I thought I was lucky to find a 2006, 1 owner cvt model with only 15,000 miles on it. There is a guy here in town that has a 1st gen, mt, with 150,000 miles on it asking $7k. Might have a tough time finding an earlier model with that low of miles on it yet, especially on the West coast.

Why do you say more problems? As far as the IMA battery, I thought they are all under Honda's warranty of up to 150,000 miles...To answer your question, I am not hoping to accomplish anything. I just want a reliable car that I can count on.

There is far more to it than 150K, searching will be your friend. Damage can be caused as much by NOT driving a car as driving it too much ,especially the case with Hybrids. The mileage you mentioned is far below the average of 12K - 15K per year which would put you @ 132-165K as just an average. Why would most people purchase an Insight gen1 when the main reason for doing so would be to save money then not drive it? Certainly you might find some below the average but the vast number will be at or above the average of 12K per year so your request is pretty unlikely, especially here in California where these cars are more valuable and desirable.

With that low of miles the chance of you finding one is slim to none, add to it your low-ball price and the fact that you are here in Cal and have several other desires you'll have a REAL hard time getting what you want... good luck!

I'll take my chances on a car with 40k miles as opposed to one with 132-165k any day of the week. I understand your point but it's not a legitimate argument for me to change my mind. I know what I want Leeper! As for my offer being a low ball offer...KBB private party value on a 2000 MT with 40k miles and in excellent condition is $8,175. I think $8,000 cash is pretty fair in this economy.

And as for me being able to find one, I'm not in a rush. I know what I want and am willing to wait for the right seller. Just last week a woman from Campbell, CA was trying to sell her 2004 Silverstone MT with 42k original miles and HOV stickers on craigslist for $8,500. I don't like tan interior though.

That is being particular(though I wish they'd left the interior gray too, perhaps we'd still be able to buy a driver side floor mat), that was a nice deal with four or five years of battery warranty left and all!
