When the parking lights are turned on, the small round white lights in the front and the amber side-facing parking lights, not the front-facing amber turn signal lights, are turned on. I had to disconnect the amber side-facing parking lights in the front to pass the Swedish lighting requirements when I imported my 2000 Insight to Sweden.

Neither the amber front-facing turn signal lights nor the side-facing parking lights would not be suitable DRL's.

They are indeed brighter, but they are the wrong color (i.e., amber instead of white).

That's too bad, but I was afraid that even LED's that are brighter than the standard white parking lights would be insufficient. Thanks for confirming my fears.

I think that's the crux of the matter. Even if you could find an LED that was as bright as one of the string of very bright LED's that Audi, Mercedes, and maybe VW are using in their newer cars, I doubt that one of them installed in the small round parking light space would be bright enough.

The German car manufacturers use at least 5 very bright LED's on each side of their cars. I haven't been able to find any 3rd-party LED's that are nearly as bright or with probably as long a life expectancy as those used by the German car manufacturers. Does anyone have a good source for such LED's?

Thomas / TRI are currently digging into this.
Please report what TRI learns. I would not want to install anything that looks too shabby and would prefer to maintain the smooth aerodynamic lines of the bumper (although recessing LED's in the bumper cover this might be difficult to do well).

Dash-Z racing is advertising a DRL strip that wires into your parking lights. These look like something you could work in. I am not required to have DRL, but it is tempting to get them none the less. (At under US$50 not a real hole in my pocket either.)

Where would you install it at?

We rarely turn on only the parking light and drive right?

What do you guys think? Usually turn signal light is much brighter than those two small round lights.

I also think so.
