LOL -- yeah, I suppose if you have something that makes it so you can't keep up at normal highway speeds, that could do the trick

I managed 41mpg into a rather nasty storm. Winds were strong enough that 5th gear was out of the question, and actually so was 4th half of the way.

This car's 4th gear is so tall that it's like other cars' 5th. Combine that with the fact that most cars have an oversized engine, and you'll find that the Insight is one of the few cars that will require you to downshift at interstate speeds, for hills or severe weather.

I got my insight 2 weeks ago and my first tank was 32mpg. I only drive 1.5 miles to work so it barely gets warmed up and its was like -15 F most mornings. Last weekend it really warmed up so I looked the insight over real good found out the oil was way overflowed! Looked like someone had put 4-5 quarts into it. So I changed the oil put a new 12 volt battery in. Replaced the ground wires and wired in a trickle charger for the IMA system and filled the tires to 40lbs. It responds a lot better looks like I am getting more like low 40's mpg now.

You really had to "dig" for that. There are SO many variables for good MPG. There is NO DEFINATE answer.
I am not a "hypermiler', but from Campo to Yuma I did mange over 90 mpg. Over 150 miles, WITHOUT being a "Menace to traffic".
Real life with my "hotrod" style of driving I still get 64+ on most trips.
OOPS.....Not stock.. Turboed.

I'm out of here.

My mileage from my old house to work and back (and errands and incidentals and road trips) averaged 69.1 mpg over the ~40k miles I drove while living there. That was driving with the flow of traffic.

I moved to 1/3 the distance from work and now I'm at ~61.5 mpg down the same stretch of road (just less of it) and the same driving style. Average over about 15k miles of driving.

Having a longer commute makes a big difference.

Signed,
Not A Menace

I think 60 is very achievable. Willie is not your car modified?

So willie since you got 90 and this is not a notmal mpg at that speed (maybe you had a tail wind) and im guessing you are not dead stock. In city driving the mpg will be less. So explain to me how one gets 91.5 lifetime mpg in an unmodified car driving without being a menace. Even being a menace for that matter. It does not compute for me
