If you were to buy a brand new Honda battery, it would carry a 3 year, 36k mile warranty.... and cost $3000.
Is there such a thing as a brand new Honda battery? Sounds like a unicorn to me

Er, that too.

We recently had a Chassis Engineer at Honda buy a battery from us. They weren't interested in a Honda refurb even at their steep discount, and pretty much (re?) confirmed that all Honda batteries are refurbished and not brand new, for the Insight at least.

So what does a refurbished battery have? Old weak cells that could die next week? I can't believe Honda would charge the new price for old junk.

They have sticks that have been tested and matched by an unknown 3rd party company.

I think it's part of the "price reduction" we saw a few years back. How nice of them.

I wonder if Honda is having trouble getting the new cells? Or maybe they just don't have the factory equipment anymore to manufacture the battery chassis? So now we're stuck with used.

Why should Honda spend $$ on the Gen 1 Insight? It is not being manufactured any more. They only sold about 16,000. The warrantee on the last production year, 06 is almost up

They have no incentive to sink any more $$ into it....

Yep, pretty much this. I'm sure Honda would love for the Insight to just disappear off the face of the planet.

Not going to happen... Not on my watch!

Eli, I'll bet you a Honda pack against a MaxIMA pack that there are Honda engineers tuned into this forum watching every thread for info from you, Peter, Mike and many others about how they messed up the BMS on the Insight.

Think about our recent Chinese battery visitor and how we skunked him. We have this amazing test bed full of intelligent caring people from all walks of life, all environments and with all flavors of Insights.

High 5 Everybody

Careful. I just got hit with an Infraction point for my post #25 in reply to your post Eli. Apparently saying Honda uses "not new" replacement batteries is "posting factually incorrect information".

What's an "Infraction Point" and who gives them out?
