But...... my issue is not the look and feel of the car but the fact that it is a hybrid but there are other gas powered non-hybrid cars out there getting about the same MPG bothers me. Add to that the bad history Honda has with its hybrid batteries and that is a bad combination for me. I live with the down side of the G1 Insight becuase it gets killer gas milage that NOTHING else out there can touch.

So, with all that said go get what you want.
It's not all about MPG. But the 1993 Geo Metro XFI I was reading got 58mpg. That's very close to a Honda Insight without being a Hybrid. I don't think the Honda Insight without the IMA could get 58mpg.

That's not true at all. I could easily turn off my battery and get 80MPG.

The only time you use the hybrid battery is when accelerating or climbing hills. Out on the open highway, not so much. I've gone hundreds of miles at 80+MPG having not used a lick of stored energy in the battery.

In fact, many people report better mileage when they remove the IMA battery. It's a fine line, and there are many scenarios where it doesn't end up favorable. You have to put back what you take out, and that energy comes from the gasoline engine in one form or another.

I'm going to have to agree with Eli. This past summer I drove from my house near Elkhart, IN to Cincinnati, OH and back then turned right around and drove to Ft. Wayne, IN and back...on the same tank. On the Cincy leg I averaged just a tick or two over 85 mpg and just over 83 mpg for the Ft. Wayne leg. I used the clutch mod switch for stops/starts to avoid assist and lean-burn was my best friend out on the highway. Sean, on this forum, once averaged just over 100 mpg on the trip from his house to mine a few years back and we all know he never uses assist.

At 22k it's worth it. It's probably a lot more refined and provides a better ride all around. If you can afford it I would sell and get the CR-Z without a doubt. It has 112hp. A lot more than the Honda Insight, but at the same time not as good MPG. Styling is obviously leap years better than the G1. The interior, and 6 speed transmission, and more power all combine to make it better than the G1 in my opinion.

So you sell your Insight for 8-10k, and the CR-Z is then only 12k after you front the 10k from selling your used car. Plus you got the benefits of a newer car, with factory warranty, newer tech, better ride comfort, more power when you need it, etc.

I like the G1 myself, but I'd prefer a CR-Z. I'm probably going to wait and buy a used one once they start getting to my price range a few years down the road.

Remember that the Insight weighs a mere 1850lbs.

The CR-Z is a rather porky 2657lbs, in comparison. Yes, the horsepower differential makes up for this difference, but not by as much as you would expect.

I also want to buy a CR-Z when used ones start coming down in price, but not because it will be a replacement for the Insight. I'd just like to have a complete Honda IMA collection. A 1st gen HCH is on our want list, too.

CRZ - too heavy, hardly sporty, decent technology, gas mileage is not nearly up to par for what it is. Too small for most people and too large to realize the benefits of being small... it is a remake of the old CRX (which was an excellent car for its day). Honda blew it just as they did with the G2 Insight and the sales are definitely showing it being the case. Will I look at one when my G1 gets long in the tooth - not a chance.

If I wanted cheap sportiness I'd go for the Hyundai Genesis. If I wanted gas mileage I'd pray for the VW to actually get produced.

Again, Honda lost its way
The had a great car in the NSX and let it go
They had a great Acura line and completely failed recently
They had a chance to produce convertible Acura legend 2 doors and Accord convertibles and didn't.
They are losing serious ground to the Camry versus Accord
The new reviews on the newest Civics are horrific compared to previous models
The Pilot - bleh
The CRV - was good but too old
The S2000 is gone not to be replaced anytime soon
That's just the car line, the motorcycle line is even worse wrought with failure after failure. Whoever is approving this and also the person who is responsible for new design work is just pitiful

I'd consider the Chevy volt if you were buying new as well. The more I look at the Chevy Volt the more and more I like it. For days you are going local and around town only you can pretty much run it as a full electric car. Then it turns into a hybrid / gas type car for long road trips.

Gets about 400 to the tank. Stylish looking car, looks better than the newer insight and prius in my opinon. Actually has decent looking stock wheels, a lot nicer than the fugly ones on the kia optimus hybrid. And I love that charcoal color.

4 hours to charge...and consumes the same amount of electricity as a dryer during that charge.
