Default Best repair for edge separating of headliner?

Sorry if this is a dup of a previous thread, but all I could find searching was basically a remove and replace the material thread of the headliner.

Mine is starting to separate about 1/2 to 1 inch along the front and rear. I'd prefer a adhesive type of repair as I've used the little hook buttons on another vehicle and it looks tacky.

My wife was thinking maybe spray starch would be invisible and hold for a while. On other sites I did see mention of the 3M spray, but most said it was only a temporary fix of a few days.

I believe 3M makes a "headliner" spray that comes in aerosol cans.

3M makes an excellent double-sided adhesive tape that is clear and VERY thin yet holds incredibly well. If you prefer a spray try "3M spray 77", this can be found usually at Home Depot and often at Hobby stores too. These products are used to adhere balsa or plywood wing skins onto foam for model airplanes and both are tough stuff. Spray 77 is a contact cement that you spray on each piece then press them together for a permanent bond.

Personally I would take it all out and strip the material off it then get a trimmer to replace it in a material of your choice. it would be worth a modest investment in my opinion.

I don't have any experience with insights - but in other cars I've found the double sided tape works much better than the spray, as the spray can partially soak through the liner and discolor it.

The rear of the headliner in my insight is just starting to come off - I'm going to give the double sided tape a whirl.

Despite my best attempts at gluing mine, it keeps unsticking, so I'm going to pull the whole thing down & get it done with Alcantara.

Thank you guys! I think I'm going to pick up some of the double sided tape. Sounds like the best solution aside from replacing it all.

Mark,
If your ever in southampton then give Vince a ring at gibson trimming. He made a real good job of mine in leather.

Ablinkin,

I would also try repairing the headliner with the double-sided tape to see if that rectifies the issue. If the lining comes undone in the near future then I would replace the whole roof lining assembly. The OEM p/n is 83200-S3Y-902ZA.

Just for your reference, it's not too difficult of a job. Simply remove all of the clips adhering the lining to the roof structure and then it's a matter of prying the lining off. Here are the clips that you must remove in order to liberate the lining from the roof:

So where do you buy this very thin 3M double sided tape? Home Depot?
