Default Performance Timing

I finally downloaded a gps pocket pc performance timing application called "GPS Performance" for my phone. A quick run today in wet conditions gave a 0-60mph time of 10.28. Loads of wheelspin though and very difficult to get power down in 1st gear. Need to do a dry test. Sub 10 second should be pretty easy I think. This was my A123 50 cell setup battery 25C 95% SOC. I also need launch from start practise.

Anyway if others have similiar apps for their phones etc perhaps we should have this thread for performance data posts. Mima, Non Mima, IMAC&C etc etc.

I'll post some 30-60mph second gear times as well.
ditto 50-70mph 5th gear and 3rd gear comparisons. All less damaging for the car than standing starts.

It also occured to me we could add this function in a basic form to the OBDIIC&C as we have speed and time available should be able to get some basic timings in a dedicated screen/mode. Any interest? Should be consistent data between cars using VSS and pic timer.

You bring up a good point. I drive my car fairly aggressively. Especially on turns. I'm curious how many Gs I'm pulling on some of those turns. Even just a basic built in timer would be really nice.

I just have to wonder how... accurate a phone app could possibly be. What are the metrics, the parameters? Is it using the accelerometer in the phone, or GPS, or what? Considering the margin of error in either, I'm not totally sold on data generated by any app...

It actually uses the GPS for speed and then it takes everything from the obd2 port. What the phone app does to measure 0-60 is that it runs a basic timer. It checks your speed (0) and it begins the timer. As you increase in speed, the computer relays that information through the obd2 port, the device reads it, and then it adjusts. As you reach 60 mph, the device stops the timer and records the time.

So in fact it's quite accurate when it comes to 0-60. It's even good with many other features. Just don't expect a G meter or anything like that without having an intermediary device to create it.

That would be really cool, I'll have to see what I can find.

Oh man, I found one. Dunno if I can wait until tomorrow to do a run It's midnight here tho! LOL

Edit: LOL......... Well, that's just pathetic.

Since we have a single file driveway, #2 was the only car available.. stock, no MIMA, 447,000 miles:

Car #2 Run #1:

60': 4.806 @ 29.23mph
330': 9.85 @ 45.11mph
1/8mi: 13.831 @ 54.43mph
1000': 17.122 @ 63.06mph
1/4mi: 21.086 @ 64.9mph

0-20: 3.805 seconds
0-40: 8.808 seconds
0-60: 16.133 seconds

ROAR!!!! This run certainly wasn't ideal. I think it was slightly uphill. I need to figure out a good place to do this. Tomorrow I'll try and get runs in with the other cars for comparison.

I couldn't find "GPS Performance", I used "Car Performance" for Android.

Nobody else is interested in this? Accuracy aside, I think it will be fun to compare and such.

'mostafa, get a run in with your car without assist so you have a baseline for when you get your new battery.

Haha. I'd need a good timer first. also, you could run a similar run just by turning off your IMA

You have a smartphone right? Android etc?

Just download an app. No connection to the OBDII port is needed.

The program I got.. It gets a GPS fix, then you find a red light, and hit start while stationary. The timer starts when you start moving.

But yes, I plan on doing IMA enabled and disabled tests. I think we're going to be surprised at the range of numbers from my cars alone. Insight #2 is definitely the slowest of the bunch.

Ah. I thought he was talking about the app that uses the elm bluetooth device from the obd2 port.

I think it's just good fun. I'm interested to compare my cars on the same run, but we won't be able to really compare other peoples runs to eachother because of variables like the flatness of the road the test was done on.

I really want to try this with the BetterBattery and MIMA to show what a difference it can make. The weak battery in #3 is going to really hold me back, and since the car currently with the Betterbattery is stock with no MIMA, that will hold me back.

But both together, and I'll be tearing up the tarmac! lololol
