IMA issues, and a HUGE THANK YOU to Ron at hybred battery repair
Long story short....I have a 2001 Insight, 5 speed, with 88,000 miles. Not driven much, and it did sit for long periods of time. Well, the IMA battery went bad. Contacted Ron at at his business, he sent a very nice shipping case, and I removed the battery and sent it to him, it was returned as new, re-installed with no issues for about a month...then, while driving, the whole IMA side of the dash went out, but I had brake light on, check engine lite on, IMA lite on, and a under hood battery lite on. I was lost. I got it down to a 1576 code for check engine lite. flustered, I took it a dealer for diagnosis. They said the MCM was bad and would replace it for $1250. I said no, thank you. I bought a used, but re-flashed MCM AND BCM for $300 off e-bay, and changed them both. It did no good, same as before. sooo I called Ron, we played some phone and e-mail tag, but he sent me a diagnostic PDF file which takes time and knowledge, but I am an electricain by trade, and car guy all my life, so I can do this. I pulled out the PCU, left side of the battery, and couldn't find a certian connector needed to continue my testing, so , I e-mailed Ron again. While waiting, I started testing the fuses, now exposed on the left side of the battery. And WOW, the 100A main fuse was blown! I called Hybred battery repair (Rons shop) and ordered 2 100A fuses. The reason I ordered 2 was I didn't know WHAT caused it to blow in the first place, so better safe than sorry at $10 a fuse! Since all tests were good up till I stopped, I decided to replace the fuse, put it all back together, and see what happens. Well, its fine, back to normal, WOW, what a relief!!
