Brake caliper pin frozen
So the front brake wear indicator started rubbing letting me know to change the pads, jacked it up and replaced the drivers side first, thought it seemed odd that I had what appeared to be half of the pad left. When I went to the right side I found that there was only a 1/4 of the pad left. I quickly found out what the problem was, the lower caliper drift pin that the caliper should slide back and forth on was frozen in place.
So, the right inside brake pad has basically been dragging on the rotor for who knows how long. I had to break it loose and hammer it out, once out I cleaned it and got all the corrosion off with an abrasive wheel. New grease and on it and put it all back together and made sure the rubber boot was servicable and seated properly and the whole caliper glides side to side now with no effort.
Since I bought this car a year ago i'm getting around 61MPG a tank which I though was pretty good for a high percentage of city driving. Normally at 45 MPG I've been showing around 70-80 MPG on the display, so after fixing the brake issue the display was showing easily around 100 MPG at 45MPH. What a difference a dragging brake can make.
Can't wait to see what I get on my next full tank of gas.
