In looking at the Insights for sale on Ebay (Gen1) it appears that the dealers in SC must have imported the great majority of the insights that came to the US.

As I said, "the great majority of Insights that came to the US". This fills the need to say Japan......
But, my Insight was imported in SC and it seems a disproportionate number of the ones for sale are in SC. Maybe SC is a particularly harsh environment for Insights and everyone there is selling them???
The East Coast also seems to have many more for sale than the West Coast. I see almost none from either the South Coast or from "middle America"
Must have to do with the dealerships.

With all due deference... Not sure how you figure that from ebay today .. the evidence seems to be to the contrary, albeit there is one first generation Honda Insight being actively bid on not meeting it's reserve as yet out of South Carolina currently.
Looking at the complete car reports for the first generation Insights for sale today on ebay, and viewing first registration dates and locations and the location of the for sale item today on ebay:
Date-registration / Current Ebay sale location

09/26/2001 SAINT LOUIS, MO / Columbus MO
08/05/2006 DERBY, CT / Battle Creek, MI

I wasnt basing my information on ONE DAY. I have been looking for a second one for TWO YEARS...thats a lot of data...
Glad you clarified, that would be a good list to base an insight registry of sorts.
Have you checked out the ones in Palestine or Austin? They must only be a relatively short distance inland from the south coast.
Palestine is about 400 miles inland and Austin is 200 miles inland. I guess that a "relatively short distance inland" is a relative thing....pun intended, but its not a simple mornings drive. But I will be checking into them, especially the Austin one.

With those distances roughly triangulated on my mental mercator map projection would put you right around Corpus Christie I'd guess, so I can see why a trip to Palestine would be a bit of a stretch. I'd too be favoring the closer 'non-blasphemer' [lolz] version of the vehicles advertized, but in questioning the original spats were indicated present. fwiw: Looks like that auction ended unsold minutes ago.
Don't mind sayin' on my trip to Bragg Creek, AB from the center of my province to buy my first I took a leisurely bus ride down and caught some zzz's after making the prior day trip driving a Yaris rental just to check it out. Well worth the trip.

Regarding for sale notifications, ..can't always believe what's printed at some sales sites: A silver 00 Insight listed for sale here in AB on Kijiji site when I was first looking turned out to be a 'ghost' with a sales address at a church parking lot, and an owner name listed turned out same as a popular Calgary flames hockey player. Pics with background images showing businesses matched up with a different town than advertised, and description listed a 1.3L engine for the first gen. Only the initial email was responded to and only an electronic voice on the phone messager. Weird.
Best luck on any of your purchases. Caveat Emptor as always!

no no Jim... you don't understand... all Insights - not just the great majority - came from Japan. Japan being a country outsode of the united states...
