Default Scangauge ii or E?

I think I'm going to need a Scan Gauge soon. What I'm not sure of is whether the ii or E. Does anyone have knowledge of both? What are the pros and cons of each? Is it worth saving the $50?

What do you want to do with it, why do you feel you will need it soon?

A good recent review comparing E and II is here. from a couple days back on ecomoder.

I have the SGII bought online and it made a big diff for me seeing real time values. More information was better. I have only read about the E, ...personally, I would hold out for better.

I'm confident the OBDIIC&C created specifically for the Insight will move things up a notch further with the IMA information that neither SG 'E' or 'II' , nor Ultragauge have.
Haven't checked out the Ultragauge myself but it looked good with better screens, and was cheaper, except it doesn't have metric units as far as i know.

On first look at the SG info, the 'E' seems a little 'Lite' and goes in the wrong direction. imho.
I missed seeing anything in the 'E' that would indicate Lean Burn via 'OX2' voltage reading as in the 'II' or an easy to see LED light as in the OBDIIC&C. On that basis alone i would pass on the E. Also it lacks the 'II's XGauge programming capability to add gauges which may or may not be a factor.
The extra money for the 'SGII' vs. 'E' would be well worth it if you want a plug and play. If you want something less expensive, UG, monitors the second oxygen sensor voltage as far as I know, looks good with several display configurations, and is compact, though still not user programmable and as mentioned won't tell you about your IMA like the OBDIIC&C made for the Insight.

As the review with side by side pics implies, hypermilers may be wanting more parameters to monitor and would opt for 'II' vs. 'E' for an off the shelf plug and play OBDII device. For the Insight though there seems one clear choice that may require some assembly.

I'd say neither. Get the Ultragauge or Peter's invention and save yourself a lot of money.

I started using the Ultragauge just last week, and really like it. It does list all three O2 sensors, and it shows pretty clearly when you are in and out of lean burn.

edit: Oh yeah - and for the price, you really can't beat it.
