Default New Insight owner :)

I picked up my new (to me) 2000 Inny a couple weekends ago, flew down to DC and drove it back to CT. It's a 5 speed MT with A/C.

I averaged 64+mpg on the way home, which makes the jme5343 happy. I just tagged it Thursday so only have a couple days of commute under my belt, but I'm getting about 58 mpg. I have a lot of hills in my area, including a 7% grade on my commute and a couple good 4% grades or more. I'll eventually put some potenzas of the correct size on the car and pump up the psi, but for now it's running some 185/60/R14s.

I need some floormats, as there were none in it, and the carpet is worn very thin. I'd really like some good all-weather plastic/rubber ones that catch a lot of dirt and mud if anyone has suggestions.

I need to do the cardboard mod and plan to get a charger for it asap. Oh, I also ordered Shawn's fiberglass sub box and a rear speaker kit that I hope to receive this week and get installed next weekend.

Other than that, nothing else planned for now!

185mm tires will really put a damper on things too. Ick.

When we bought Insight #2, I couldn't stand the 175mm tires on it. IIRC the tires you have now are snow shoes, so you may as well use them through the winter, but be prepared for a nice surprise when summer rolls around and you can get the proper tires fitted. It really changes the feel of the car.

Yep, like Eli said, it's buried a couple pages back in the classifieds. Couldn't ask for a better seller, he was exceedingly honest and friendly.

I did the cardboard mod and bumped the Psi up to 45 today. If I'm comfortable with that, I may go up to 50.

Looking around for a scanguage - particularly because of the cardboard mod, but also to help me know a little better what's going on.

I put in an 8.5"x17" piece of cardboard today. I think it's like 2/3rds blocked. Went for a 15 mile drive.

I had to thrash it a few times to even get the temperature up to 188 degrees by the time I got home, and it was only 39 degrees outside.. Damn our efficient little engine.. lol.

Is this the car that had a new cat? And I think a small dent by the hood ornament? I was wondering what happened to it, but it was owned by a woman I think so maybe not. I think it was registered in PA, but recently moved to VA next to DC. Just curious cause I thought she was going to sell to me but then disappeared which turned out to be as well cause I'm broke.

Oh, and congratulations!

Odd, I found that with a half rad block at 40-45 out, I got half bars on the temp gauge after only 1.8-2 miles.

Turn off your heat completely and set the air to recirculate until you get half bars, then put it on manual 1-2 bars fan speed and leave it on recirculate until your cabin temp is up. Your car will warm up much faster (but you won't!).
