Just as I got to NAPA yesterday and paid $9/qt, I remembered this, but alas it was too late. I'll go pick some up now while I'm thinking of it. Thanks for the wake up call!

I went to purchase Mobil 1 oil for my LRR at Walmart (Camino Canada store, Lakeside, Ca.) the the other day and they had a sign on the display that read. "If you need Mobil I syn. oil, ask the attendant".
Here is the reason, per the sales staff.
They have it but don't keep it on the shelf as it is highest "theft" item in the auto accessory area. It seems they had had numerous incidents over the past months of people stealing Mobil 1 syn oil.
WTF, Weird.
I did get my oil though.........legally.

$8.79 at Napa. I don't remember what I have paid in the past, but I think I'll be picking up 10 qts at Walmart
