Done a few thousand miles now since I rebuilt the Insight I bought back early this year, and more recently I've been getting one recal every 75-100miles.
Tried some grid charges, had a good effect initially, but of late the effect of of a grid charge is less, so it looks like I'll be off to get a "better battery" installed in the new year, will reort back once done.

You could of course get/buy the battery Jonny has spare from the group UK car break, and gridcharge that first and try it, then rebuild your other battery at your leisure.

To be honest I'd rather go for a new battery from you, it's the best solution in my opinion as it should be good for many thousands of miles once done.

Hi Mark,
Can you give more information?
When you tried some grid charges, how far down was the SOC before grid charging back up again?
There are certainly failure modes that a grid charge won't fix. I'm sure we'll be hearing about those now that more grid chargers are deployed. It's not surprising overall.

Do you have the Calpod IMA disable switch?
MIMA?
Some more details would be helpful.
Jim.
I've tried grid charging from differing SOC's from 2 bars, right the way to alomost full, whilst there is certainly an effect, it is limited, over the course of a week or so, the battery slowly returns causing to regular recals.
No mods fitted as yet, I do have IMA C&C but simply not had the time to install it yet.
It's feeling pretty much identical to Insight No1 that I had many moons ago when Honda agreed the battert was faulty & replaced it under warranty, so I'm confident it's about due a repalcement.
With that in mind I have placed a deposit on a "Better Battery"

Hi Mark,
I would highly recommend getting the Calpod IMA disable switch in your car. Doing that will allow you to at least drain the battery to about 1/2 SOC. That way you can drain it, then trickle charge back up when you back home.
Without the switch present, every time you drain the battery on a hill for example, the BCM will force regen the battery back up right away. The end result will be little "cycling" the battery.
