I went through a real headache trying to replace two bald RE92s yesterday, I was just lucky to find a Firestone dealership that was able to source the tires locally. Why are these tires so hard to find?

They're not normally. This same thing happened back in 2009 or so, where they were on backorder everywhere.

I ran into this problem a few years back - as Eli says it probably was 2009 or so. Nobody could get the tires except Tire Rack - said they had a good stock. You have to pay shipping and Schwab will charge you extra for mounting but I wanted stay with original tires. Last go around Schwab had no problem getting them.
I had luck this past week at a Firestone tire dealer, they had one in stock and got the last tire in San Diego ordered in for me the next day (Sorry SD area Insighters, my rears were bald and one had lost its tread, I had to!)

I didn't see anything listed but the Michelin Energy Saver when searching by car model (i.e., our Insight). If I searched by tire size, nothing, not even the Michelin Energy Saver, was listed for 165/65R14, which makes no sense because the 165/65R14 Michelin Energy Saver was listed for our Insight. However, when I searched for 175/65R14, the RE92 (among others) was listed, but this size is very different from the 165/65R14 size (e.g., much heavier, not low rolling resistance).
One of mine developed a bubble on the tread. Still holds air but not sure for how long. I need 2 tires like now. I tried Cosco, ebay, tirerack and a few others. Nobody has one them stock. Anybody got a pair they have been holding on too that you would like to sell? Even a used pair with 10k miles left on them would work. New is good too if anybody knows of any.
Thanks

I would check with a Firestone dealer, same company as Bridgestone.

I checked with my local Dealership and they say there is none in their warehouse and that if any dealer had them in their back room, it would not show up on the national system. Not sure all that is true but if the dealer in San Diego has them I need 2 at least. Anybody know which store had them?
