I recently had IMA battery in my 2006 Gen1 replaced on warranty. Since that time, I seem to detect some differences in the way the system works. The regeneration seems more agressive in 2nd and 3rd, and naturally the SOC spends more time in the midrange bars. Does Honda have a record of tinkering with the programming when the cars come in for service? Just wondering about the experiences of others.
Of course, it has gotten colder here, rolling resistance is up, and warmup is slower. That may have some influence. It is a complex car and I'm no expert.
They probably installed the dreaded *070 BCM while they were in there. I think they are doing that on ALL warranty swaps for the last few years.
Do you have the paperwork from when they swapped the battery?

From what I have read on this forum, Honda released the 070 version of the BCM in ~2008 and started installing it on all battery replacements done under warranty. It has much more aggressive regen to 'protect' the battery (including the hidden regen), but this adversely affects MPGs.
(Shameless plug) I have a version 030 for sale if anyone is interested.

And what would the difference be since the dealer can reprogram any of the BCM, I think? Are you saying that there is a physical difference between the 030 and 070? Are there seriel numbers to show this?
Just curious I've only owned my car a few years and have only recently become interested in the deep esoterica of the car.
The later ECM's are the only part that can be programmed in the car ASFAIK.
The BCM & MCM are not software upgradeable in the field ASFAIK. They have a factory cpu programming port on the pcb inside the case probably for one time flashing at the factory after assembly testing.
No physical differences, the difference is in the programming. The part number on the BCM represents the revision, ie:
1K00-PHM-030
1K00-PHM-070
etc.

Eli, my number is neither of those. I just checked and carefully wrote down the number. I have:
1K100-PHM-A03
Are your sure of your numbers? I can see similarities in your and my numbers. There is a third version? I have an 06 MT.
I went to my dealer and asked for a copy of the invoice for the battery replacement in May. The invoice showed only the battery replacement, no change of BCM or S/W changes. So I may be wrong that the assist/regen behaviour is changed. We are into some cold weather here and that causes rolling resistance and heat loss to increase. Plus, I am making lots of local suburban trips. I just can't be certain that it has changed.
The Honda service writer told me that the record shows that there was a S/W change in 2008 which was before I owned the car. I should have asked if the battery had been replaced at that time, but didn't. I have a Carfax from the time of purchase. It shows a number of services on the car, but no battery change. She admitted that the dealers make s/w changes all the time to vehicles being serviced - which we all pretty much knew anyway.
I was getting an occasional negative recal pretty much from the time I bought the car in 2008. Of course, the frequency increased over the following 2 years and eventually we killed the battery by infrequent running last winter. It lasted almost 2 years even after the recals started. Probably got a cell reversal on cold weather starting and disuse. I was out of the state for nearly 6 months and I couldn't convince my daughter to drive the car regularly. She is a Mini owner and literally hates the Insight.
I think we actually confused the MCM revision with the BCM revision in this thread. Check your MCM revision and post it here, I bet it will be 1K100-PHM-070. I forgot the "1" after the K.
When my battery was replaced in early 2010, I received BCM revision 1K100-PHM-A01 and MCM revision 1K100-PHM-060.
The first revision of the BCM ends in 010.
